Re: Curve in the shower...

If you mean the shower panels look "wavy", then the wall behind the surround(or the surround itself) may be improperly supported/installed, not square, or just waterlogged to the point of waviness. Do the panels wobble or rattle when you "bump" them gently?? As for the tub hardwa...

Re: Given a 1972 Regent..

Look at it a different way, it was FREE. Id L O V E a free home, even if it needed tons of work. Clean up, de-smellify, fix whats broken, decorate as you see fit. First on the agenda, clean out the home and seal up the home water tight. No leaks from the roof, doors, windows. If you need to replace ...

Re: Given a 1972 Regent..

Free is good!! Make sure the home is water tight, caulk around windows and doors. Pull up the old carpeting and discard, might help with the smell. Then check the floorboards and see where you need to repair. As Greg posted, use plywood and NOT particle board. If you can, post pics and ask questions...

Re: Deal of the Century or NOT?

It could be done if you do most/all of the work yourself, and get good deals on materials. Shop around as necessary. Ive had good luck with craigslist in the past for materials, paint, and appliances. Dont be afraid to haggle a little on the price, sounds like the park owners want to move it to some...

Re: Complete remodel

The good news is that if you were given the home/land, you have ZERO dollars invested in it, so ANYTHING you do to the home would be an improvement. Id say if the structure isnt too badly damaged, go for it. This way you can remodel as you and your budget see fit. Its also a great opportunity to sho...

Re: Underbelly DIY Cleanup

Dealing with the tight space, just take your time, and give yourself a minute or so to get used to the surroundings. I know I need a minute to adjust to the darkness. Im 6'3" 290lbs, so its tough for me but I manage. I also take frequent breaks. The underbelly is also a good place for animals b...

Re: Almost had a fire

Burned/scorched wiring could mean an overloaded circuit. The breaker should have tripped before too much damage was done. In addition to repairing the a/c unit, have that circuit checked out at the breaker box.

My neighbor had this same issue, he did it the way Greg described. Got everything done in one summer.

Glad your homes held up in the storm. Double glad nobody was hurt. Finally heard from some friends down that way, as of this afternoon they have intermittent weak cell service but no power.

Great idea, get several estimates. Gives you a chance to meet and talk to contractors and get a good price. Dont go for the best price if you dont feel comfortable with who will be doing the work.

Re: EPDM Roof Okay?

Theres a roofer on youtube (search for "baseballgrader") that puts the EPDM roofs on lots of homes. I believe he's in coastal North Carolina. He shows whats involved in roofing with the product, and answers questions via message. Give him a look.

StevieB's plumber did it the quick and easy way. Add a T on the cold side under the sink, and connect your frostproof fitting.

Re: Process to replace all flooring?

I noticed in your post that you plan to put in carpet in a bathroom. I would advise you to use vinyl tiles or sheet vinyl anywhere you might encounter water(kitchen, bathroom, laundry area)
Carpet in a "wet" area can get moldy over time or quickly if you develop a leak.

Re: Damaged door frame on older singlewide

Best idea is to replace with a standard sized door, as Greg posted. Most stores sell a pre-hung door with frame at a reasonable price, since its a "back" door you don't need anything too fancy. You can beef up the door rough opening while you have everything apart for extra security, as we...

Re: lamanite flooring

1)Get the best underlayment you can afford. It allows the floor to expand/contract, plus keeps squeaks/weird noises down. 2)If you can, take a look at the flooring outside of the packaging. Some of the "cheapy" stuff doesn't click together too well. Take a look at store closeouts/leftovers...
