Hi,

I purchased a 86 Fleetwood double wide. My wife would like for me to tile the kitchen floor and bathroom floors. I was told at the tile store that it was ok to tile the floor if I use a 1/2 inch backerboard. The MH is in Florida no issues with freeze. Also the straps have been replaced and are up to 2009 code. Does anyone have an opinion on this? Has anyone tiled floors before?

Thanks AD

Hi & welcome. You obviously are aware of some of the possible problems. That said since frost heave should not be an issue, If it is you have bigger problems than cracked tiles. As long as the floor does not flex when you walk on it you may be OK. Remember that if you add 1/2" to the floor height you may need to trim the bottoms of any doors that will be effected. Greg

Plus tile thickness. Remember if your doors have a 2 inch gap from the floor to the bottom of the door this use used as a cold air return for your furnace/AC unit. Do not restrict this area.
