I have decided against doing drywall or taking the battens off the paneling in our home. There was just too much that could go wrong and I don't want to deal with the cracking issues. So I did start painting, and now I have an issue....how do I put up oak base and trim board around the floor of the walls with the strips on there? Is there a trick to timming those a little to fit the trim board under it? I want new carpet and when that is installed I would like to put trim board up . Any info is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

Just measure your fnished trim height and use a chisel to cut away the battens. It's that easy.

Or set a scrap piece of trim up against it as a guide and chisel or mark where to.

Also make sure the chisel is razor sharp or try using a razor knife and CAREFULY make your cuts. Greg
