Siding options

I'm looking for ideas to replace the vinyl siding on our home. I was planning on going with Hardi-Plank but the level of work necessary to stain and hang each piece on our home is really not worth the aggravation.

It might be different if you could stain it after it was hung but you really can't and unless you have a good, clean, flat work area that is protected from the elements to do the staining, you end up with a lousy result.

I guess I could hang it and paint it but then that leads me into looking at just about any other siding option besides the Hardi-Plank.
