Hey all,

I am not an avid college baseball fan, but I am very proud of our Fresno State Bulldogs in their run to the championship (hopefully). While we had a weak run for the WAC championship, they have really stepped up in the CWS. They have been magnificent against the higher ranked teams. Unless Stanford can pull out a miracle, looks like they will lose to Georgia.

We play the very good UNC Tar Heels in about 2 hours. No wishing of luck. Just let the best team on the field today win. They are both very deserving.

GO DOGS!!! WOOF WOOF WOOF

JD,

Is this the championship that's played in Omaha? I've watched a few games leading up to the championship. But otherwise not following it close enough to really matter.

Meanwhile earlier this afternoon I watched the Cubs beat-up the White Sox. Now if my Twins can win tonight, they'll only be a couple games out of first place.

Yes, this is the College World Series bracket in Omaha. It is a double elimination, best of 3 games. Since North Carolina has already lost once to Fresno, it is a must win for North Carolina.

With Georgia's win against Stanford, they will play the winner of the Fresno State-UNC series for the championship. Fresno's last appearance in the College world series was 1991 and now they have the championship of the world series at hand. So that is pretty cool in my opinion.

Right now at game time, there is a rain delay. Man! Get all psyched up for the game and now in an energy cool down with a wait of an hour or more.

But yes, this is THE big game. Way to go Farmer State! Oh, I mean Fresno State.

Hi JD,

Yep, been a HUGE college baseball fan since I was a youngster.

My team Clemson got shafted and left out of the 64 team field for first time in last 22 years.

So have to pull for their conference, which is the ACC, which means,,,,,,,,,,,,, GO TAR HEELS, LOL.

UNC is trying to get to the championship series for 3rd straight year.

Last two years, they lost to Oregon State, would love for them to finally win it all.

Fresno State is playing great though and just like Oregon State last two years, they have a lot of heart in their play.

Best wishes for some more great ball !!

Hey JD,

We used to live right down the road from you in Visalia. Although we never got to attend a Fresno State baseball game, we had a good time at a Cal Poly (husband's alma mater) verses Fresno State football game one year...many years ago. I couldn't even tell you now what team won the game that night.

Hi Diane,

Visalia is a wonderful city. Very clean and up to date for a valley town. I have noticed that before all the big casinos went up, most of the big name jazz entertainers would stop in Visalia and pass Fresno. I felt that said something about our town. I will be in Visalia next week. Going bass fishing at Kaweah. :)

JD,

The bass fishing sounds fun...we used to love to drive up to Three Rivers for the day.

We lived in Visalia in 1982 and haven't been back for 20 years so I am sure that I would not even recognize it. I have heard that it has grown tremendously. My husband is from California; graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and one of his first jobs out of college after we were married was for a company in Lindsey so that's how I got to Visalia. I miss a lot of things about Visalia but the fog isn't one of them!

Have fun on your fishing trip!

JD,

Congrats on the win, I missed the game, but had a feeling it would end this way.

UNC had a great year and 3 year run, just couldn't pull it out and lost some key players after last year.

Should be a fun series upcoming as Georgia has really got hot late in season and surprised alot of teams.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert

Thanks from the Central Valley, Robert. I don't know if I was as sure about the outcome before the game started. I am thinking that although the Tar Heels pitching crew is deep and very strong, they might have been either wore out in the case of Smith and maybe a bit green and overwhelmed with the young back ups. The fact that we left so many runners on base kind of exposes that. Fresno on the other hand had a great defensive day. I doubt that the pitching was the main factor.

Now for Georgia and that will be a handful, especially with the double elimination deal. They are undefeated and we have lost one game so far, so Fresno really has their work cut out for them.

Thanks again,

JD

JD,

Well, seen some and missed best part. Seen it as 0-0, 1-0, 1-1, and 2-1 .

Came back at 7- 6 and seen last out .

UNC won the first game of the last two championship series games and both times, let Oregon State come back and win 2 to take both titles.

They still had a team, but not what they had.

The ACC sent 3 of top 4 seeds out there and still came home empty.

Georgia is a big rival of Clemson and also of the ACC, being an SEC team.

As hard as I try not to be, I'm still a fan of theirs, probably because GA is a neighbor of my home State of SC.

I hunted in GA and spent alot of time there.

However, I'm a sucker for underdogs and cinderellas, so happy either way this time, one of the most unexpected series ever.

GA is #8 seed and Fresno is unseeded, BUT putting on one bigtime memorable Omaha Classic for sure.

Betcha the Bulldogs win it, LOL.

Take care,

Robert

Great game 1 last night, Georgia squeeks it out. What # save was that for the pitcher, like 18 in a row?

Hey JD,

Good thing the Twins played late (west coast game), or I would have switched off the Fresno game after the second inning. Things sure did turn around after being down by 5. This is the first Fresno game I watched, and after 2 innings of hitting nothing, I was asking myself how they ever got to the finals. The rest of the game told the story.
