Afternoon everyone,

I have a “mid 1970’s” something or other, single wide that is in exceptionally good shape for her age.

My question is about my bathroom exhaust fan.

I want to replace the existing fan with a new one but I can't seem to get a handle on how to remove the old one and install the new one.

In an effort to get an idea of what is involved I removed the grill to get a peek.

I can't seem to see how I would remove this old fan.

I HAVE replaced newer "square type" fan "innards" before but never a round one like this.

Has anyone ever replaced a round bathroom exhaust fan?

Was the job done entirely from inside or was there something to be done from the roof?

I understand that fans can be very different.

Might I be correct in thinking that the round "tube" that extends through the ceiling and out the roof probably stays in place?

And the fan "innards" (motor and fan blades) slip out and back in, in some fashion?

And if so, how might I go about ordering the correct size replacement?

Not so much RPM’s but physical size.

Does anyone know of a web site somewhere that might have generic type installation instructions and/or cut away views which would help me understand what I might be up against?

Thanks in advance for all replies.

You can sometimes just remove the motor or blades, but it is usually easier to disconnect hose and remove housing.

Take care and best wishes,
Robert

Hello Harry and Robert.

By the way Harry, I really like the "thumb up" monkey.
It kinda sorta looks like me. (Which is one reason I don't have a picture associated with my profile. I'm no beauty that's for sure.)

Anyway, many thanks to both of you for the posts.

It LOOKS like that whole metal housing (that the motor and blades are inside of), or whatever it is called, needs to slide out in some fashion.

That's good information as it gives me an idea of what to look for.

I think what I'll do is get the fan blades and motor out the way.
Then may it will become clear as to how I might disconnect the housing from the home.

I assume that this housing is screwed to a 2 X 4 or something similar.
And it is these screws and the electrical connection that are holding it to the home.

Hmmmmmm.

We shall see what we can see.

Thanks again folks.

You have been VERY helpful.
