Is there any benefit to having insulation inside the interior walls other than for sound deadening?

It might well be worth the money to keep from getting up to change the thermostat when it gets too cold, only to find it was a hairs breath away from turning it's self down.

Is the new digital thermostat more sensitive to temperature changes then the mercury bulb type. Does it react quicker without over cooling or heating?
