What I would also do is have him quote you the difference between the concealed fastener system with roof felt, and the face attached panels with ice & water shield. The water shield would 'self-seal' around all the fasteners, virtually eliminating the leak potential. The metal will probably be ...

JD, the Signature 200 is strictly the finish. Here's the product catalogs both companies quoted. They do appear to have concealed fastener roof panels, but there's no distinction made. The contractor needs to give panel profiles and metal gauge in order to compare properly. http://www.mbci.com/new/c...

To answer your question about lightning rods. A MH is no different than any other building in terms of susceptibility to lighting. All that a lightning rod will protect the structure from is a direct hit. That's all. The fact that your equipment got fried meant that it struck the lines feeding the h...

No. The cap shingles that are there now will be just replaced with ridge vent and new cap shingles. There should be some lag screws that were used to join the two ridge beams together, but these will not be affected. The only problem I foresee is the sheathing may need to be cut back to allow the ai...

Ditto what Jim said.

And like JD mentioned, they achieve the double layer by overlapping half the run.

Suggestion:
The lighter color shingles the better. Preferably white. The less radiant heat obsorbed from the sun = cooler roof = less cooling load. Every little helps.

Excellent information there. I'll chime in by adding, if you have gable vents, do you also have soffit vents? If no, then you wouldn't be gaining a whole lot. If yes, then block off the gable vents because the heat flow could become 'short-cycled'. Basically, the turbines would be drawing in the air...

I considered this last year before I decided on DishNetwork. The C-band/K-band/4DTV equipment for this gets very expensive, and the big dish required would have been too much of a headache to install. You have receivers, LNBs, rotators, switches, etc that become your headache to keep working. The pa...

Maybe the scabbing on that was done on the side frame pieces? This will weaken the bottom of the door if not attached securely.

There's ALOT of misconception about DTV. The biggest being that it takes some kind of special antenna to recieve them. THIS IS FALSE. The signal sent will still be coming over the airwaves on various frequencies; if it comes in good as analog, it will come in as DTV. Weak signals, on the otherhand, ...

Absolutely! A good home inspector will pay attention when he/she's down there investigating. Otherwise, a structural engineer will be the only person who can say whether the integrity has been compromised by the amount of rust. If the rust is only on the surface though, I would simply coat the expos...

The method used to insulate the crawlspace is completely wrong, evidenced by the excessive moisture. Like a house built on a stemwall foundation, when you insulate the perimeter walls and seal off all vents (they defeat the purpose of the insulation), the floor must then be UN-insulated. This essent...

Do you have a package a/c unit? If so, have you checked the return ducts to see if they are possibly disconnected or damaged under the home?

That's gonna look MUCH better with the larger overhang!

How did they attach the new 2x4 rafters to the tops of the trusses?
