RE: Mold On Panel Next To Door

I don't know anything about Reflectix but remember you need to also choose insulation based on R-value. I'm not sure but I think you are probably supposed to put at least R-13 in your sidewalls when you make a repair. Not that the building inspector is going to magically arrive and make you remove w...

RE: Grey pipes

Oh and the reason I was fixing sgigot is hot water had no pressure. Inside the spigot a rubber washer had dislodged and was blocking the flow. Replaced it and it's fine. Total repair cost was less than $3 because I bought a bunch of washers. If I had taken the one I had to the store and matched it, ...

If the shut off valves don't stop the water sometimes you can tighten the packing nut on the shut off valve. It's the other thingie on the shut off valve that looks adjustable. I had to tighten mine just yesterday to fix kitchen spigot. Maybe you can google "packing nut" to find a picture....

I saw that HGTV show a few months ago. It was waterfront in the FL Keys. The buyer was a builder and he essentially rebuilt the place on the old mobile frame. Tile floors, etc. If I recall correctly they were looking for a home for $500000 before they settled on the $250000 fixer upper. "Mobile...

Don't forget if you measure your wall panels very carefully Lowes or Home Depot will cut them to size for you. That might make them a little easier to haul home.
I thank you for your son's service. You should be very proud.

I suspect that the local county building inspector's office is going to want to see the wind rating as a plaque mounted by the manufacturer on the home. You can try googling the county building inspector's offices and ask them. Nags Head, Kill Devil Hills and Kitty Hawk and south to Hatteras are Dar...

Shock Hazard

A local farmer, age 28 and the father of four, was trying to fix his microwave last week. It got power but didn't heat. He UNPLUGGED it and took the back off the appliance. He received a shock that made his heart stop. Tragically he died. According to news reports this happens to at least four peopl...

RE: Need Suggestions for Kitchen Cabinets

Sand the cabinets lightly. Wipe them down with deglosser and steel wool. Prime with a high adhesion primer. Some folks like Kilz 2 Latex but I use Zinser Bullseye. You'll probably need a quart for your kitchen and have plenty left over. Both are available where Behr is sold. Cut in corners and hard ...

RE: clearing drains

I used this drain cleaner in my shower last week with great results: 1 cup of arm & hammer soda poured in drain followed by a cup of vinegar. It foams up like a science experiment. It worked but drain was just running slow before. It was not terribly clogged. It's perfect now and the ingredients...

RE: insulation of the underbody of the trailer

You didn't say where you live but in any area except subtropical Florida patching your floor with tar paper will cost you much more in heat loss than a sheet of proper subfloor will cost! If you are doing it cheaply why can't you buy a sheet or two of OSB subfloor and patch your areas the way it's r...

RE: carpet color idea

You didn't calculate the cost of five coats of poly on the covering. I bet it looks pretty cool but let us know how it holds up. If it doesn't work you probably will not need to remove it to cover it with floating floor such as laminate. And you can cover it with carpet of course. Carpet here in VA ...

RE: wall mount for flat screen.

Your flatscreen should be fairly light weight. I hung a 32" on an exterior wall. You need to make sure you know where the studs are. They are fairly easy to locate in the old wood panel walls. My place is pretty old too. The hanging kit I got at Walmart had all the bolts needed. It even had a l...

In the mean time you should get your dog a crate large enough for him to turn around in. Any larger and he will soil that too. You can lock dog in crate at night and while you are not at home. Do not feel bad about crate. Dogs like to have their own den. My dog crate is in the master bedroom where s...

RE: Hardiboard siding

I spent all day yesterday with my son selling Cub Scout popcorn outside a grocery store sided with HARDBOARD. I had a conversation about with a dad who is very handy. He said his neighbors (small stick built rancher) got about $2,000 a couple of years ago but they've moved. He made a claim, an inspe...
