RE: Metal roof

Really good roofers usually use metal that will (they say) last 30 years or more. They usually have a selection of colors that are baked on (epoxy) at the factory and should last a long time. Some people think it's a good idea to leave the first layer of shingles in place to further help with leaks ...

RE: Kitchen-Aid Mixers...an epihany!!

Yeah KitchenAid products are rather costly, but well worth it IMO. I have their Pro Line espresso machine and matching grinder. Outstanding quality and function for the $$$ and makes waking up each morning worthwhile. I have seen a KA Copper mixer that was really eye catching, but at $400 it'll have...

This is especially true if you have acidic water, which is caused by low PH. It will destroy galvanized pipe very quickly. Later!

RE: Bail-Out the Auto Industry

Here's my take on it.... for years the "Big 3" dominated the auto industry and demanded high prices and paid their workforce too much IMO. Then along came the foreign guys. They could offer vehicles cheaper, comparable build quality, better fuel efficiency, etc. For years I heard my parent...

RE: Cleaning Duct Work?

I have vacuumed out ductwork before and we had the ductwork in our previous home "professionally" cleaned and sanitized, but I haven't seen anybody having to take the entire ductwork system out for a major scrubbing like that. I know cash is tight for alot of us, but there may be so much d...

RE: Kitchen remodeling finished...

Just wanted to say the spice rack over the hood is a nice touch. Also like the fact you have white cabinets. You paint them yourself? I know alot of people like the wood grain look and I grew up around that look along with paneling, but our entire kitchen is yellow, white cabinets and a checkered wh...

RE: weird wall question

Well part of home ownership is screwing up something because as you go along you learn from mistakes and learn how to do things better and more efficiently. That does look kind of strange. I wouldn't say normal maybe there was a lack of material or effort. Kind of like I've seen in a site built home...

RE: Black plastic covering under house insulation

Ordinary duct tape won't last long because it breaks down relatively fast. I have found Gorilla tape to be very good for this use, but of course it's expensive. I've also tried vapor barrier tape from Lowe's that is used when housewrap is applied. But my favorite is aluminum foil tape that is design...

Yeah they work quite well and use nothing but water. The one I have has a floor attachment with a microfiber pad that can be washed and reused. It also has lots of different attachments for small/large areas and a squeegee for doing glass and mirrors. Most of the units in the $100 range are a big im...

RE: Plumbing Vents

Only time will tell. If that kitchen drain is somehow tied into the others then having better flow in that one could certainly help. Our modular has a traditional plumbing system in that one large vent (3" I think) is utilized. But each plumbing fixture (showers, faucets, etc.) has its own Stud...

As one who suffers from life threatening asthma/allergies I'll go one step further and recommend you buy a respirator. You can pick them up at Lowe's or HomeDepot for about $40-45 and they do eliminate the threat of mold, mildew, chemicals, etc. It will last you a lifetime and the canisters can be r...

Amen to that brother. I could never join any form of military due to lifelong asthma, but if I was a vet and put my life on the line for freedom I'd say a week off would be more like it than just 1 day. Later!

New Way Of Cleaning!!!

Over the last few years I've seen various steam cleaners on the market, but never really bothered with trying one. Recently my mom bought me a Shark Ultra Steam unit and I have to say I'm totally impressed. It will allow effortless cleaning with nothing more than water and a little time. You can als...

If you want an affordable, great looking thermometer that will always work and needs no power supply buy a Galileo thermometer. It's one of those things that makes people go "WOW." Later!
