Re: 3rd switch @ front door

Possibly wired for a ceiling fan that was not installed, or more likely it powers an outlet for a lamp

Re: sheetrock

If you're taking the paneling down, it's no big deal to upgrade to regular boxes at the right depth. Advantage 1: safer, regular grounded outlets Advantage 2: nailed to a stud, not clipped to the rock - sturdier Advantage 3: you can add outlets, and/or relocate existing outlets to the spots that mak...

Replacing smart-side

1993 Guerdon 14x66, originally sided with 4x8 sheets of T-111ish wood chipboard (osb) siding. The siding is nailed directly to the wall studs, and the North side of the house has bowing and swelling at the bottom, and some of the stuff can be poked through. No vapor barrier. My intent is to replace ...

Re: Wallboard Replacement Options

Rock is cheap, fire - retardant, and insulates well. I use regular 1/2" rock in my rentals, remove the battens from the paneling joints and staple it back over the sheet rock joints, and spraycan texture 'maybe'. Crown stapler makes quick & easy install & replacement if damaged. Prime &...

Re: Question about flooring

Luan? If that's too thick, lay some cheap sheet vinyl ('linoleum ') and put your vinyl tile directly over that.

Metal 5-rib replacing shingle

I have 2 roofs shingle roofs to replace this summer: one singlewide that has 23 year old shingles that haven't failed yet, and one doublewide that had the roof poorly installed 6 years ago. Gonna replace with 5-rib metal panels, flashing at the ends and ridge vent. I am a landlord, know a little abo...

Sounds like a black plastic retaining nut. You will either need to open up the wall from the front or from the back. Sorry

PB/poly to pex transition fittings

Off the hook @ Lowes they sell a pex fitting that is a transition coupler for pb tubing; the pb side has a shiny copper crimp ring and the ribs are closer together. I have used this many times for pb, but can it be used for 1/2" black poly tubing to pex?

Re: I am haveing a problem with my furnace. It works interme

Not a furnace guy, and but my troubleshooting tree goes like this

Pop cover off of tstat, cross red & white wires. If furnace comes on, and bad tstat. If it doesn't come in within a minute, bad furnace. Beyond that, I only do electric
