Re: Exterior door jamb repair

I recently had to do this repair on a friend's similar door(burglary attempt) We peeled back the sheeting on the wall and added two 2X4s butted up together right against the new door jamb. Screwed them in with long deck screws to hold everything together, then drilled the new assembly for a new lock...

Re: Electrical information web site referal?

MAKE SURE you know what youre doing before you attempt electrical repairs or wiring.
If you make a mistake you can cause a fire and lose your home, or worse, lose a life.
If youre ever unsure, consult a professional. In my case, my Dad(retired electrician) so Im lucky.

Re: Removal of Belly Wrap, Old Insulation and Particle Board

Well the "bagged" insulation is a little easier on the skin and eyes when you install it. Unfaced or "not bagged" insulation might be a little cheaper, but you need to protect yourself when installing.

Re: Removal of Belly Wrap, Old Insulation and Particle Board

I agree, MUCH easier to remove a roll or two of insulation to fix a water leak/service something or find a dead animal. I recently saw on a home improvement TV show a new type of insulation made from old blue jeans and defective blue jeans material. Its treated with a boric acid solution to repel wa...

Re: MOLD under mobile home wont go away cleaned , fixed etc

Very important for warm moist air(like in the bathroom) to ventilate out. Wherever warm moist air meets cold/cooler air, youll get moisture/mold. Id set up a good exhaust fan and make sure it vents outside of the home. This should help for sure.

Id do what you posted, call around and see what each company charges.
Many companies have free estimates, which can help you see what youre looking at money-wise.

Re: MOLD under mobile home wont go away cleaned , fixed etc

Check plumbing for a possible leak somewhere.
Is the moist air in the bathroom venting outside??(exhaust fan)
You may have to disassemble as necessary to figure out what's going on. Many times bleach kills surface mold, but not mold growing internally.

Re: replace a door jam?

When I repaired a friend's mobile after a break-in attempt(no dead bolts), we cut out everything on the lock side of the door. Found out all that was holding it in was a 2X3 and staples. We ended up using two 2X4s butted together(we screwed them together with long screws), then installing a better q...

Re: Ant Control Help

To solve the problem on the inside, use Borax. Its usually available in the laundry section of your local store for a good price. Most ant control products have Borax as a major ingredient anyways. Ive tried it before on an abandoned foreclosure, worked great!! Use gloves!!! Ants enter homes for two...

Re: roof sweating bad

Anywhere you have hot air meeting cold air, you have moisture. A good moisture barrier is a must. Is your bath exhaust fan is ventilating outside?? Any air gaps in it??

Re: lights dimming

Those space heaters can cause trouble, they draw high amps and can kick breakers(or worse!!).
Glad it was an easy problem to solve. I knew a guy that tore into his wiring in his double-wide(flickering lights), only to find the problem was on the park's side.

Re: lights dimming

Be VERY careful with electricity. My Dad is a retired electrician, he likes to tell people, "Know when you're over your head" when you deal with electronics/wiring. Don't be afraid to get some good advice before getting too deep.

Please be careful!!!
