Re: Bought & installed new outswing MH door. Lockset issue.
the deadbolt won't go in the deadbolt hole in the frame. It's not simply a matter of being out of square. I even tried putting the deadbolt in the frame hole (without putting it in in the door). It wouldn't go in -- the hole is a narrow rectangle and the deadbolt is more of a square with rounded co...

Re: Install regular house front door?
I was originally going to get a wooden slab door since it was MUCH cheaper than the one I got .. but the door was so heavy I could barely move it .. and I too was concerned about it being too heavy for the trailer. The metal door I got was light enough that I could flip it all around myself when cut...

Re: Install regular house front door?
I did this .. I got a pre-hung exterior house door that had the right width for the rough opening (34" i think), but was the standard 80" regular house door. I already had the drywall ripped down to the studs, so it was just a matter of taking a sawzall and cutting the studs above the door...

Re: Determining Wall Size
My 1982 Fleetwood was 2x3 for the interior and exterior walls. The exterior were 16" OC, but the interior were 24" OC .. actually the interior were 48" OC with a 1x3 at the 24" mark. There was no insulation in the interior walls. When I gutted the exterior walls, I replaced the e...

Re: building a shower
how much does cement board flex? I was looking at one brand at Home Depot, and it said something like "prevents tile pops". When I do my master bath shower, I was planning to frame in the shower area (36x48) with 2x4's, put up cement board, then use the Kerdi floor pan and membrane stuff t...

Re: Flooring
Are you keeping the old linoleum and carpeting over it? if so, I would keep the sections under the walls as well. I figure it would prevent any water from getting 'under' the linoleum if you happened to spill something in that area. I asked a similar question about keeping old linoleum, and someone ...

Re: Sheetrock
I used Ultralight on my 2x3 framing with no issues. To me, it felt about the same weight as the existing stuff that I removed. My interior walls were framed 24" on center, so I added additional 2x3's to make it 16" OC before I hung the sheetrock.

Re: What color is your mobile home interior painted?
I painted over some paneling with Glidden paint and primer-in-one. Before painting, we wiped down the areas to be painted really good. It looked great with just one coat, but we're going to apply a second coat just to be safe. We ended up going with a sandy tan color, and used an off white for the t...

Your options will depend on if the area gets sun for the majority of the day, or a few hours, or is mostly shaded.

Re: Installing a new ceiling light / junction box
Something about cutting into the ceiling support beams makes me a bit nervous lol .. cutting away some trim to attach a j-box right to the marriage beams is probably the best solution. If we get a wide enough ceiling light, it would be hard to see anything between the light and the beams anyway. Tha...

Re: Total Remodel - Project 2: Kitchen
My girlfriend's grandparents lived here before us. Same people that installed a ceiling fan by hanging it from a hook. I'm not sure if you can really tell from the pic, but the tile is pretty crooked and not grouted or anything. Still looks better than that wallpaper, though!

Installing a new ceiling light / junction box
There are 4 2x6's that run along the marriage line of the living room ceiling, and the ceiling is slightly vaulted. There was a ceiling fan installed in the center of these beams, which was very wobbly even at the lowest speed so we never used it. I removed the fan, and found out why .. it was basic...
