Re: Total Remodel

I took Friday off (comp day) and got the demo finished and hauled off. In removing everything I found two really strange building techniques. This is the vent pipe/drain for the tub. This is the wall the tub faucet was on. Instead of putting the vent pipe in the wall..,.. it's outside the wall. The ...

Re: Show me how your crown molding turned out

Wow, this is another great example. Can you please tell me where you purchased your crown molding? Home Depot? Lowe's? Is it made up with a single piece or multiple pieces? Thanks! The crown all came from a local lumber yard as it's cheaper there than Home Depot. If you dont have a good one close b...

Re: Show me how your crown molding turned out

We' put new crown up all through the house. My skills aren't good enough to have unpainted crown. I always end up caulking the joints,,, some more than others.... Ok some a lot. That said,, it looks pretty good in the end. If you haven;t done it before,, check out youtube. There are some g...

Re: Total Remodel

OK,,, moving on it's time for the 2nd bath. This one should be lots easier than the master as I'm not really moving anything,,, just replacing. Here's the plan. I got a new white metal 54" x 30" tub from Home Depot. Had to special order it but at $149 it's a good deal. We'll do cultured ma...

Re: Total Remodel

Well,,, the painting is 95% complete. Still have one more weekend of odds and ends. I even put in a couple of new palms and made a planter in the front. I'm getting a new load of pea rock this week,,, or at least I hope so. http://lsspecialists.com/trailer1.JPG I've got all the parts less the tub (w...

Re: Questions on Florida MH

Rick,,, Wow,,, you're tucked right in the mangroves! Not sure I have any real answers but can tell you about mine. I'm in Key Largo MM103 in Cross Key Waterways,, 1987 doublewide, on the water. I'm on a concrete pad and blocks were used to elevate it. My blocks appears to be in very good shape still...

Re: Homeowner Insurance claims

I had a claim last year due to the fire down the street. The adjuster I had figured out what the total damage was, deducted my decuctable from that and wrote me a check for the balance. If there is a mortage,, things may change and they may want to write the check to the mortage company. I had this ...

Re: Total Remodel

Do you have a local sherwin williams paint store? If so go in there and talk to them for a whie. All the ones I have been to are very helpful and will answer all your questions. They will know what will work and what won't. Just tell them what type of siding you have and if you can bring a small pi...

Re: Total Remodel

I've been getting ready to paint the outside. I'd forgotten that 80% of a paint job is prep and this place needed a lot of prep. I had to grind all of the paint off of the metal front door as I had rust bubbles all over it. I painted it and the awning over the front door last weekend. The awnings wi...

Re: flooring

I installed mine without the foam/plastic underlayment that I've used in the past as it was very ex[pensive. I opted for just thick black plastic that I got at Home Depot. Two years later,,, it's perfect.

Re: Total Remodel

It's the little things....... The sliding glass door has always been difficult to open and close. When I say difficult it took two men and a couple of small boys to open and close it. Yesterday I took the door off and cleaned and oiled everything. No good. So I figured out how to get the wheels out....

Re: Dining Room Flooring

I was looking at the vinyl planks at Home Depot as well. I opted for laminate wood flooring for the whole place (less the bathrooms). Really like it and it's easy to install. It's been in the living area for 2 years now and is wearing really well. We have two 90lb labs and they don't scratch it up a...

Re: Total Remodel

Got the plumbing and electric done. What a pain. Had to rip into a lot of the insulation/wrap underneath the trailer to get to the piipes and electric. I'm afraid I'm going to have to go back and fix that mess. I did run the washer and dryer through one cycle. The wife is happy,,, no more laundry ma...
