I was just going to suggest adjusting the blow direction switch on your ceiling fans. That's what I do to get the heat away from the ceiling. When the fan blows up, it clears the heat out of that space. Then, your A/C can take care of the rest more efficiently I'm increasingly worried about whether...

RE: Lightning rod for a MH?

@ Theresa73: I forgot to mention it in my post, but yes--we do have surge suppressors all over the house. Even our refrigerator and freezer are plugged into a surge suppressor. Except for the fridge/freezer, I unplug the surge suppressors from the wall, too. Interesting that you need to keep your pl...

Lightning rod for a MH?

A few weeks ago, lightning mildly damaged our telephone line, as well as coming through the cable internet line (fried the modem and my ethernet card). I now realize one must unplug the phone lines and the cables, as well as unplugging electrical appliances from the wall. (Can't afford one of those ...

I am a little late getting into this discussion, but I wanted to chime in anyway. Better late than never, I always say. :) Our home has 6 floor to ceiling windows in the front, opening to our living room that has a cathedral ceiling (1982 Madison). Floor-to-ceiling windows? Where do you put your fu...

Re: RE: Can you tell if this is OSB ? Paintable ?

Not sure what room this floor is in but vinyl is very easy to lay and doable by the average DIY'er, providing you have average mobility. There are several vinyls out that require nothing more than just laying on the floor and then and baseboard. I'm with Yanita on this one. A painted floor would lo...

Seems like it'd almost be worth it to have a friend in the USA get a cell phone and contract (that allows for international calls), then just use that phone in Canada. :(

You are lucky in America for cell phones. Here in Canada we have 2 carriers (and thier subsiduaries), therefore, no competition. It costs an arm and a leg (and your first born, and any future inhieritance, etc.) to get service. Most go with pay as you go, but you have to buy more minutes at the end...

RE: Cell phones..an update and my decisions at present...

Let's keep it super simple...here's a phone that's literally made for folks like you. :) http://www.jitterbug.com/Phones.aspx As you can see...these have BIG numbers, there is 24/7 assistance just a phone call away, and you can see if your area is covered by looking at this page...as you can tell, J...

I'd like to know how to clean vinyl siding, but mildew isn't our problem: Bird poop is! Particularly the birds that strafe the nice, white siding with a huge splash of purple yuck. It never seems to come off completely....

As Mark and Greg said, should be just surface cleaning needed.

But I got to ask...how does a gallon of water explode?
Water jugs are so cheaply made nowadays, I think one of them could burst under its own weight. :)

You don't want to know the headaches I've had with Galaxy Cable. They kept trying to act as if it was my equipment, or my browser, or the color of my hair (!) that was reducing my 5mpbs speed to LESS than that of dial-up. Turns out that my neighbors were having the same problem...and I guess they go...

if so I'd like to see some pics from others with painted batten strip walls rather than smooth. :D Here ya go! Look behind the picture, and you can see the texture of the original paneling...and a batten! http://i35.tinypic.com/2m334gi.jpg This is just a plain wall, with the paneling/battens ...

You'll have to access the backside of the shower head to remove it. Well, it's accessible (the former owners removed the paneling of that wall in the laundry room--and never replaced it). I'll give it a try, and if I have a problem, I'll get back to you. ON EDIT: I got it off, and the new shower ar...
