Re: Painting kitchen cabinets?

Home Depo has special paint for redoing cabinets (about $60/gal) and is definatly worth the money.
It has all the directions to do the job.
Sand, prime, paint.

Re: Help!! Textured wallboard!!

Skimming the wall is a huge job, not for the amature seeking a quality job, and probably not worth the effort.
If you do decide to skim coat get a quote from a profesional before you try it yourself. It is fine to try and do it yourself but the results may be worse than what you already have.

Re: replacement range vent

Buy a standard vent from any of the home building stores and modify it to fit the opening. They have them for stove vents, dryers, furnaces etc. Just get one big enough to cover the existing opening and don't worry about the shape. Then modify the hose to conect to the existing range vent line. It d...

Re: Quieting A Metal Roof?

I would cut down the trees and sell them to a saw mill. Regardless of the noise issue they are too close to the house and should be removed.

Re: My adventures in Mobile Home duct cleaning!

If you use the fish to pull a small rope from point to point (register to register) through the system it will be far easier to pull the vacuum through the ducts rather than push it.

Re: Fireplace. Gas or Wood burnig?

I would go with gas, especially in your location, simply for the convenience. Wood is hard work and dirty. The only people that should go for wood fireplaces are those people that truly enjoy the work involved in getting and using wood. Fire places are inherently inefficient and are primarily for ap...

Re: Floor Joist fix.

A quality constructive adhesive is the key to sistering joists. In reality when the glue is dry the screws could be removed as they no longer serve any purpose.

When he purchased it the home was in a similar state as yours and needed everything including furnace, electrical, st...

Re: Gut Renovation

My advice is never trust anyone. If you know what you are doing then you can be the GC, money wise contractors will try to take you to the cleaners, guarantee one thing and then jack up the price. I would advise not paying any contractor more than 1/3 up front and work out an exact pay schedule as y...

Re: Ceiling replace

If you have or had a leak you should remove the existing ceiling, replace any wet or damaged insulation, check for and straighten the rafters as best possible, install a vapour barrier, and then strap the entire ceiling using shims to make the ceiling flat for the installation of ceiling material of...

Re: Shower Window Trim Ideas

If you want to make the PVC joints watertight (PVC to PVC) go to the plumbing department and pick up some PVC plumbing cement. Just make sure you don't get it on any exposed surfaces.

Re: Front door out of square help..

If the floor under the door is not level you have two choices, either level the floor (jack the house) or reframe a square opening to match the door and install a level door sill. Jacking would be the prefered option in this case and in my opinion the easiest. You may also have a problem with the si...
