Re: cleaning vinyl walls for paint?

I don't know of any product that will not require rinsing and TSP is the best product I know of. Having painted over vinyl before I would highly recommend a thorough light sanding of the vinyl with a 220 grit sand paper before painting and the use of a high adhesion primer. Make sure the primer does...

Re: Insulation/plumbing questions

Vapour barrier goes on the warm side of the insulation (heated side) otherwise you end up with a sponge with no insulation value.
The belly material should breath allowing moisture to escape.

Re: A deadly reminder to take gas leaks serious

Regrettably in many cases park owners are motivated more by what the end buyer is willing to pay for a mobile home than to build a home properly and hope to find a buyer that can afford it. Doing it right always costs more up front but buyers of these types of homes are rarely prepared to pay the pr...

It depends on the product you buy. As the sales staff where you buy the product.

Yep, somebody is going to win the lawsuit lottery. I imagine the ambulance chasers are tripping over each other circling the park.

Re: A deadly reminder to take gas leaks serious

This will put an end to the park supplying propane. Residents will have to each have their own tanks in the future. If the owner does get sued the likely hood is the park will be closed and everyone will have to leave unless it is a very large park and the owner has deep pockets. This park may survi...

Re: A deadly reminder to take gas leaks serious

Even if itwas a rental unit the landlord would need to have been informed of the leak. If they were informed and took no action then they will be held liable.
Home owners on the other hand are fully responsible.

As Forest Gump would say "Stupid is as Stupid does".

Re: Tub faucet repair

Fixing a faucet that old is like taking a old dog to the vet when it gets sick, it's a waste of both time and money. Just put it out of it's misery.

Re: Doublewide back door sticking

will these adjustable hinges really work on a mobile home? Their exterior hinges have 4 screw holes but mine only have 3..?[/quote]

Since you would be replacing the entire hinge the number of screw holes on the existing hinge is not relevant.

Re: p-trap?

You will likley need to measure the diameter of the pipe and see if it is a standard size. It should be a size that an adaptor will fit to change to standard if it is not already.

Re: Drywall

Where I live the only thing that is textured is the ceilings (popcorn) and that is only done by contractors to save money on proper mudding of the seams. It's also the first thing removed when renovating. (correction- Greek or Italian styled homes here often have textured walls.) Textured walls were...

What is the point in texturing drywall. It can't be for the appearance.

Re: Drywall

If seams are not taped you are guaranteed to get cracks. The purpose of the tape is to prevent cracks in plaster the same as the paper on the drywall prevents cracks. You are on track to improve the entire home except for your plan to re-texture the walls. Unless this is something that is standard p...

Re: Frozen pipes and propane shortage stories

I have found in our community the most common cause of frozen pipes is a result of the home owner not keeping the temperature in the home high enough. Often the heat tapes on water lines are not applied to the line between the belly wrap and the floor of the home itself. This is the area that freeze...

Re: Dining Room Flooring

My only advice, having experience with all types of flooring instll, is to go with the highest quality (most expensive) flooring you can aford. When it comes to flooring price does matter. You want to put it down once and only once. Cheap will not stand up to ware and water. For a dining area I woul...
