A message to the MH builders out there

Re: installing wired speakers for surround, questions?

Are your rear speakers wall mount? I ran my wires down, then across to the outer wall, up through the floor.....and then up the wall to each speaker. I did put the wire in copper tubing so that it is hidden and the end result is a kinda modern looking wire hide. The bottom line: there are no good or...

Re: Wheres a good place to order windows from?

Big Orange has the stock sizes of American Craftsmen - but they can special order pretty much any size you want. I went to the store, sat down with a window guy...and was done in less than 30 minutes. They called about a week/10 days later and my windows were there for pickup. I got windows with the...

Re: Wheres a good place to order windows from?

I replaced all of my windows with American Craftsmen (subdivision of Andersen) from big orange. All of them have done just fine - with only one needing replacement. The glass in one half of the window has got some weirdo strange marks/handprints in it that have become more obvious over the years. I ...

I'm not sure what your question is. Do you want to move the register? Modify the register?

Re: What Could be Causing this Staining on Ceiling?

I have a similar issue at the ceiling where a trim board covers the marriage seam. There is zero moisture - so i can only assume it is dirty air being pulled in when the AC runs.

Re: Flooring suggestions - dog/scratch resistant

I put down the laminate stuff in one room that I made into an "office". It has held up well to the dogs (3 black labs) - but (there is always a but! ) Pretty much all I had read said to run the planks towards the light (window). So i did. BIG mistake! Because the floor joists run the same ...

Re: Should windows have gaps like this??

New home??? With junky work like this??? Those windows may not leak to the inside of the house - but they WILL leak behind that vinyl siding. Sooner or later - you are gonna end up with one heck of a mess - and a bill to fix it! Push it all back to the dealer - and most probably in this case, the ma...

Re: windows sweating in the winter

If you think the sweat from those window3s is bad - you should see the heat escaping out those single pane windows. My place had the standard junk single pane windows. I replaced all of them via big Orange. They carry a brand that allows custom measurements - and no extra charge! All told, I believe...

Re: How important are OUTRIGGERS on a manufactured home?

I would let miss dealer know she is full of it. The outriggers provide critical support to outside walls. Yes, there are floor joist that span from one side to the other (across the main I-beams) - but the outriggers serve to stabilize all of that. make 'em fix it, replace it - or take it back. doin...

Re: moving a floor heater vent in kitchen Moderators: Mark, Greg, mhrAJ333, JD

Their *stupidity* comes from the book of "Fastest and Cheapest"....with a one page chapter on real engineering. :) I, too, had floor vents in places that would make your mama cry. One in the kitchen blew anything on the floor to the stove top. Another set less than a foot from a toilet alw...

Re: Replacing Piers on 1973 Mobile Home

I'm not gonna say the guy was a scammer - but as long as the piers are not cracked or broken - they should be good to use. There is one pic where several 'spacers' are stacked on top of the pier - which i would not want to do. Flat concrete blocks can be added to the bottom to lift the pier up so th...

Re: Leak detector on water meter spins back and forth

Ok...I may be out in the weeds on this one...but.... the little red spinner is very sensitive to any water movement, hence a very small leak will cause it to spin. That said, I would venture the jumping is due to other houses on the same service line opening and closing faucets. The reduction in pre...

Re: Moving my HW tank outside.

You sound like a capable handy guy - and I am thinking that for the cost of a new tank plus some means to shelter it - it may be about the same to do one or those wall mounted tankless water heaters. You didn't say which you have, but they come in either gas or electric. If doing electric, usually t...
