Re: Eaves from factory?

1987Commodore, Yep, the plan is to add a ridge vent and dramatically increase the square inches of intake venting under the eaves. Right now I calculate only about one square foot of intake vent area at the eaves. In theory, you're supposed to have at least as much intake vent area as exhaust vent a...

Re: Eaves from factory?

Norm, Would not surprise me a bit if we had a little leaking. Fortunately it's just a little - not like we're dripping from the ceiling and having to put buckets down in the wet season. :) Under that particular area, I've never seen any evidence that it's even getting onto the ceiling, though who kn...

Re: Eaves from factory?

Dale, Interesting, thanks for the explanation! I actually got out the ladder tonight, unscrewed the gable vents, and took a peak inside the attic. I still couldn't find any evidence that the eaves were added on, and didn't see anything like a hinge, either. I'll include a few pictures though, if I c...

Re: Eaves from factory?

Our house is a double wide. Maybe they were folded as you suggest? Pity I can't contact the manufacturer anymore - they were right down the street from my work. :) I'm not sure how a folding eave would work and still give you a properly sealed roof, though, unless the roof was all installed on-site ...

Re: Eaves from factory?

Well this isn't conclusive on the house, but I checked the garage, and the eaves there (about 14" overhang) were not added, they were there from the start. Though I guess that isn't too surprising, since manufactured home builders didn't make attached garages, right? :) The top chord of the tru...

Re: Eaves from factory?

Greg, Thanks for the quick response, that sounds like a reasonable plan. It's a good thing our roof isn't leaking - yet. So we're not desperate to get this done. But it is the rainy season here, for the next 5+ months. Based on past experience with inspectors and anything government related, these t...

Eaves from factory?

Did any manufactured homes come with eaves from the factory, or have them as site-installed options? We're needing the roof replaced on our 24 x 48 Kentwood (built in 1985) with an attached 24 x 20 garage. Both the house and garage have eaves overhanging about 18", looking just like a normal st...

Re: Counter trim

We made and attached wood trim to our new laminate countertops, as the store wanted a fortune to provide that service for us, and didn't have the profile or wood type we wanted, anyway. We used 3/4" thick by 1.5" high jatoba, screwed to the countertop substrate, with caulking between the e...

Re: Run dryer vent behind washer?

Once again I'm impressed with Greg's suggestions/solutions. In case it didn't get properly digested, here's what he suggested: Build a raised platform and route the ducting underneath the units. If you've got front-load units this would probably make things even better, as it would raise things up ...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

Thanks, I appreciate the detailed explanation. I think most top mount sinks do use clamps, and ours is no exception, so your advice is very helpful.

Re: Run dryer vent behind washer?

My wife and I did this job in a few lazy hours yesterday, no problems at all. It turned out the exterior wall studs were in exactly the right spot to not be in our way for the 4" duct hole. We missed a stud on the left by about an inch, other side by a couple inches, sweet! Total straight duct ...

Re: Run dryer vent behind washer?

Greg, Thanks for the response. Actually my plan was to affix the 90 degree elbow at the dryer outlet and a vertical length of straight pipe above, before pushing the dryer back. Then once the dryer is in place, I'd attach the final 90 degree elbow to transition to the pipe going through the wall. I ...

Re: Tile above shower wall ?

Anything is possible and you can make tile work it is simply a question of taste. Normally the space above a surround or even at the top of a tiled tub wall is left as painted drywall. This is the standard way to finish around a tub for a reason. Mainly appearance. Is there a functional reason why ...

Run dryer vent behind washer?

Hi all. I have needed to redo our dryer vent for a long time and am finally getting around to it. It was just a mishmash of the semi-rigid flexible aluminum with all kind of kinks and crushes, not good. I want it to be as much rigid smooth wall pipe as possible. I believe I'm just overthinking tryin...

Re: Acrylic kitchen sink?

It's pretty decent. But, there's many more out there that are nicer (but would not fit). As previously noted, this, and a slightly different model from the same manufacturer were the ONLY sinks that would work (that were single bowl). Ended up getting a rack for the bottom as well (that was a non-e...
