Re: laminate flooring at marriage seam

First thing, check & relevel the home if necessary. There is no reason that you should have movement between the two halves if the two sides are properly bolted together. Flooring should be run 90* to the floor joists.

Once things are calmer Try it again. I used soapstone so it was not permanent. You could use caulk when you remark. Just go slow , take your time.

Re: Screeching bathroom fans....

Most fan motors use bronze bushings, the do require lubrication. If the motors & fans work fine other than the noise I would just lubricate them. 3 in one oil may be a better choice than WD40.

Re: Mobile Home repair book

I believe the original mobile home repair manual did have a chapter on it. it may have been geared toward the old rounded single wide homes, but the newer style cathedral ceiling with trusses are the same principal but with a ridge vent at the peak.

Re: Mobile Home repair book

Things got a little crazy a few years ago. The Original founder & owner of the site sold the site but the rights to his books remain his. I am not sure what the status of his books are at this point, you could try Amazon. Search books by Mark Bowers.

Re: Mobile home leveling questions..

The only way to know for sure is to start with the water level. I use soapstone and write the +/- reading on the frame next to the pier as well as on the paper. Since you did not buy the home new you really don't know for sure what may have been inside next to a wall, Aquarium? Piano? You never know...

Re: plumbing is a leaky roller coaster!

The only issue you may run into is possible code problems. Some areas require ABS rather than PVC I have no idea why. As for the cans I tighten them down with pliers when I remember to, it seems to help some.

The less fittings & bends the better. No telling if it was factory or repairs done in the past.

Re: Crack in fibeglass shower

If it IS fiberglass you stand a chance of repair, but first you need to find out WHY it cracked in the first place. If it is an ABS plastic tub, use a sawsall to fix it and put a new one in.

Re: Drain Cover On Shower is Falling Apart

You are going to need to raise the tub or if you have a side panel that is removable to allow you to get under the drain to replace it. On the plus side of the job, it should be a standard size. Any way you look at it, not a fun job.

You can glue some shim stock or 1/4" paneling/plywood on the inside of the wall for the flags to grab on to.

Re: installing wired speakers for surround, questions?

There is no attic in a manufactured home, All you will find usually is blown in insulation that makes a mess when you open up the ceiling. I would go for a wireless system to make things easier.

Re: Vapor or air barriers in outer walls?

This is the dilemma faced by most manufactured home owners. Traditional construction calls for a barrier (tyvek type) outs the studs and a vapor barrier inside the studs. We all know that manufactured homes have a tendency to develop rotted rim joists and the bottoms of some studs due to water leaka...

It depends on how big of section you are replacing. Small sections you can just muscle into place.
