Re: Water Heater Help

Most newer gas stoves don't use standing pilots anymore.. maybe it's time to upgrade that as well.

Re: Corrugated metal ceiling

Looks really good, nice clean install. It's a bit overbearing for me because of the low ceilings we deal with in our mobiles, but done in moderation(like a kitchen or possibly bathroom) I might not mind it. I personally just don't think I would want my entire home done unless it was a really large s...

Re: Shed rehab/upgrade

So, I got the siding done all the way around, and I put in a 12 by 12 louvered vent in the back so I can put in a fan for ventilation. I have decided to turn it in to a small workshop/storage area. I plan on insulating the whole thing, and I am hoping someone can chime in with some tips for the roof...

Re: CAT 5 network cables in the AC duct work

Definetly not in the ducts, and try to keep the runs away from the ducts and furnace in general. The cable casing could melt and smolder... Not good. Also, any wire that will be run in the walls or in the underbelly should really be plenum grade for fire safety reasons.

Re: Shed rehab/upgrade

Quick update, got three sides done... just have the back left to do. I think I'm going to finish the inside and use it as a workshop.

Re: Shed rehab/upgrade

Thanks everyone! Just a couple quick updates. Trimmed out the front and got vinyl about half way up the front after work tonight. Part of the reason I'm posting this is because there is not much for walkthroughs or images on the web for a project like this. So,hopefully it will help a few people fig...

Shed rehab/upgrade

My shed had a fair amount of rot around the lower edge and the double doors were shot... So, it was time to replace or repair it. I chose to repair and upgrade it because the cost to buy a new unit is about triple of what I will have invested in repairs and upgrades when I'm done. The total cost wil...

Re: Duct Question

If this is a gas furnace, it could be delayed ignition from clogged or overly dusty burners. You should be able to hear you igniter click and then the whoosh of the burners lighting up right away if your near the unit when it fires up. Just make sure that's not potentially the cause first, then beyo...

Re: replace all water lines?

I put mine in a closet just next to the hwt closet... it's really the same closet lol... I built out a false wall on the back of the closet because the manifolds are designed to be recessed between normally spaced (16" on center) 2x4 studs... my interior walls are 2x3 so it would not recess pro...

Re: replace all water lines?

Totally agree with Steve, easy peasy... I just did mine at the end of this past summer... single wide 14 x70 Poloron. Had PB in there and stuff was starting to fail left and right, so I made the exec decision to replace it all. I posted some of the work I did on the forum here. All in all, it took m...

Re: Finally set up a transfer switch and got a generator.

Greg, I may add the central a/c in at some point, but the 5000 watter does not have enough surge to start it. I have two window units, one 12k btu and one 8k. They are enough to cover the main living space and bedroom In a summer power outage situation.

Finally set up a transfer switch and got a generator.

We lose power a few times a year, and the most recent 8 day outage post Sandy pushed me to finally set up a transfer switch and generator. The switch is designed for surface mount, but there is a flush mount kit... For 50 plus bucks... I recessed mounted mine, and will trim it out with something. A ...

Re: Need attic access for electrical problem

There could also be a GFI outlet before that area that has tripped. I have seen bathroom GFIs tied to outlets in areas that you would not expect... worth taking a look. Also if your outlets are "backstabbed" instead of wired to the side terminals, that can also be a cause. I really don't s...

Re: Underbelly repairs

If you have any local mobile home parts stores, or an RV repair/supply shop of sorts near you, they should have it. I got a 28" x 50ft long roll online for about 89 buck plus shipping. The roll should last a long time, and the repairs are permanent as long as you clean the area first so you get...
