Re: Bathroom wall material?

Thanks, I didn't realize that. I thought the tile or tub surround would go over the tub lip and take care of that but what you say makes sense.

Re: Bathroom wall material?

The original install used 1/4" fiberboard between the studs and the tub so the alcove is 54.5" wide and the tub is slightly less than 54". I need to narrow the opening by 1/4" on each end so I thought I would just run the wallboard down to the floor on each end. The back of the t...

Re: moisture in ground under home

I had a similar problem and have been able to make it a lot better. First I put in rain gutters and downspouts that direct all the roof water away from the house. Otherwise all that water is running down the outside walls and soaking under the house. Also I put 6x6 pressure treated wood all around t...

Re: Bathroom wall material?

By Greenboard do you mean the moisture resistant drywall that is faced with green paper? I read the data sheet on it from U.S. Gypsum and it specifically said not to use for shower surrounds. That said I did use it on a previous remodel and it held up fine. The only problem was the tileboard that I ...

Bathroom wall material?

Hello, I haven't been here for a while but I'm finally starting to remodel my bathroom. Was very hard to find a new tub in the right 54" size but finally found one at Lowe's. What I'm wondering first is what to build the walls with. In the bath alcove it had fiber board which was covered with s...

Re: wanting to create an access door

This worked for me and maybe it will for you. I just removed a 2 foot section of skirting and replaced it with 3/8 pressure treated plywood. I cut it so it fits into the skirting tracks with enough clearance on top to be able to lift it and pull it out of the bottom track. Put on a handle and staine...

Re: Building a shower enclosure

Checked out the link and the minimum side wall is 33.5". Mine is 28". Pretty pricey too for me. They start at $600 plus shipping. This is a shower I rarely use so I want it to be functional but I don't want to spend thousands.

Re: Building a shower enclosure

Thanks JD for the detailed response and I understand most of it. Are you saying that the panels can be cut to the width I need? I went to the web sites for the brands you mentioned and the installation brochures were not helpful about minimum size. They all seemed to be wider than my 28" alcove...

Re: Building a shower enclosure

I'll have to look again at the home supply stores but it seemed to me the shower surrounds they sell are sized wrong for a mobile home. My enclosure is 54x 28 and I think a standard home shower is 60 x 34. Maybe they can be modified to fit? I wouldn't want it extending beyond the shower pan. And wha...

Re: Is my whole house moving?

I think even with concrete piers you'll have problems if you can't keep it dry under there. My place sits on pressure treated slabs and it seems to work pretty well. I've relevelled twice in 40 years and it's only been off less than an inch. If you like digging under a mobile then who am I to stop y...

Building a shower enclosure

I'm trying to figure out how to rebuild my shower. It was a tub/shower but it was chipped and I only use it as a shower so I'd like to convert it. I think I've seen the shower pans so hopefully that won't be a problem. It's about 54" long. Don't know how to do the walls though. I've seen those ...

Re: Need roof opinions please(pics)

This looks like my roof did last year. Small leaks had allowed water to get in and the roof coating prevented it from getting out. Areas of my metal roof had just rusted away which caused the ponding. Of course the pressure from the ponding water pushes more water in and it gets worse. Hard to tell ...

Patching belly board

I'm repairing my belly board and it's the kind that's like an asphalt fiber board. I've been using the poly belly wrap and spray adhesive. It works ok but it's tedious and expensive for the adhesive. Has anyone tried any of the self adhesive flashing tapes? Typar makes a few and one of them uses an ...

Re: basement addition

Well, anything is possible and I've seen people build things I never thought of. I just don't see how this could be financially feasible. I'm thinking the first step may be to hire an engineer to design something safe that can support the weight of the house on top of it. If you have a plan then you...

Re: Skirting Base

Mine was nailed to the ground also. The nails rusted away and then animals pushed their way in. I'm now putting pressure treated 4x4's all around and fastening the lower track to that. With skirting you have to make sure it can move either at the top or bottom. Mobile homes move a little especially ...
