Hi again,
I'm wondering which type of filter we should be using. There are two wire mesh filters one on each side of the A coil that have gotten a bit ragged. There is no filter on the return register proper. We have no literature on the system.
Thanks
Richard
which filter
Hi Richard,
Those mesh filters protect a-coil only and allow inside coil area and furnace area to become dirty.
What I do is remove them, then go to a HVAC Supply and get Hog's Hair filter material and cut to size.
Our local Wal-Mart also carries this in a 20X30X1 filter material that you cut for exact fit.
It is blue material and is also Hog's Hair.
It has woven fibers on one side and small square mesh on the other.
The small squares face the furnace.
You cut it for exact fit behind the louvered door panel in front of a-coil.
Then lay it on back of door with squares facing furnace.
I use regular scissor handles to press the edges in behind the door edge lips.
It's thicker than door so it makes a tight fit.
I buy two and size them both at same time.
Then, every 30 days, I remove one, install the other and then let the dirty one soak overnight in hot dishwasher liquid water.
Next day, rinse well and hang over tub or outside to air dry.
Repeat every 30 days.
It will keep a-coil and surrounding area clean and is much easier to deal with.
Also, vacuum a-coil surrounding area twice a year and clean a-coil and blower motor/wheel once a year.
Take care and best wishes,
Robert
