Re: Help, where to start, complete remodel- *LONG*

Or, could I just do the awnings now, and would it be relatively simple to loosen sections of awning where it attaches at the top of the current siding in order to replace 2-4 sheets of siding at a later time?

Help, where to start, complete remodel- *LONG*

Ok Gang! I need some help here. I'm going to embark on an extensive remodel (the whole house, LOL). Here are some of my quandries - 1. I can't just move out entirely and do the whole thing at once which would be easiest, so it will be done in sections. Some sections are interdependent on others. Thi...

Re: New roof on an old double wide?

VintageSteel: I'm in CA, and so is JD I believe - and his comment about meeting code. Anyway, the state of CA does allow for a built up 4:12 roof, and they have pre-approved plans to do this. I'm not sure that Idaho would allow the same thing, but at least you'll have reference for how it is done (p...

Re: Siding Questions

Hi Greg, The siding I want to use is not vinyl - if it were vinyl, I wouldn't worry about the extra weight. This siding is an engineered wood product so probably quite a bit more weight than vinyl, but probably slightly less than a fiber cement product. That's my concern about leaving the T1-11 in p...

Siding Questions

Hi Gang - First off, just about every window in the house is going to get re-framed to new sizes, sliding glass door removed, etc. so there will be quite a few areas that will need to have the exterior siding patched in and/or cut out. Currently: 1977 Madison double wide; T-11 (Masonite?) siding. I ...

Re: Vinyl Upholstered Ceiling Beams??

Mandy, I'm sorry you are stuck with these. I figure you have two options here that are viable. You can either redecorate your house around these, and embrace your inner "Hollywood Regency" style......or..... If you really hate them that much, I'd uncover a chunk of your beam, remove the vi...

Re: Ahh....yet another drywall question!

Hi Greg, thanks for the reply. It looks like all 3 reviewers on Lowe's gave Quiet Rock 5 stars for sound deadening. I have a 1977 mobile home, there isn't a stitch of sheet rock anywhere in it now. Just the 1/4" lovely wood paneling! I'm not really sure why I'm worried about it....so far the 70...

Ahh....yet another drywall question!

I haven't posted here in a loooong time, mostly because my login wasn't working. Today it worked! Must be a good thing for the New Year! I know there are many varying opinions on the "to drywall or not to drywall" question related to weight, cracking, etc. If I elect to drywall, most of th...

Re: Total Renovation Possible?

Forgot to add - I also elected to get permits (many many people don't permit here in CA, at their own risk) to preserve some additional saleability of my home later. No one will have to wonder if my house is safe when they purchase, because they will know that every wall, window, door, electrical, p...

Re: Total Renovation Possible?

Hi Shaeness, I'm going to be removing some load bearing walls in my double wide, and cutting out a section of an outside wall, and recessing my entryway into the house. Check SC permitting process to see what is needed. I can tell you that here in CA, because I'm removing a load bearing wall, increa...

Permits in CA - Anyone?

Hello, I've been gone awhile....but now have what I think is my final floor plan created for an almost complete redo of the homestead. So, besides the local building permits, I am under the impression I also have to get permitted by the State of CA Dept of Housing and Community Development in order ...

Thanks to all of you.... Yanita: the ceilings are 8', so there is room to go higher in the wall. Rod: I agree, it would be easier to lower the sill, but my windows are low enough already. If they go any direction at all, it will be up higher since they look kind of dumb being as low in the wall as t...

Electrical Panel Upgrade

Another question on my mind....actually I just did a search, and saw that my own panel amperage is dependent on the park's main amps. How do I find out what the park's main amps are? Just ask, or look somewhere? Has anyone here upgraded their electrical panel and/or had their whole house rewired? Mi...

Windows - Why & What is Cheaper?

My 1977 has all of the windows set at about 72" high instead of the standard 78-80". WHY? It would appear that there is plenty of room above to have placed these higher in the wall. That's probably one of the questions never to be really answered. I will be replacing my windows, so I have ...

I generally call mine a mobile, however.... some phrases just call out for trailer: "trailer trash" (this makes for a great theme party!) I had a trailer trash party when I lived in the singlewide I had, tons of fun! Maybe I'll be brave enough to post pictures of that someday. "Queen ...
