particle board floor question

We recently used a type of cement floor on an old house with wood floors to redo the bathroom floor. We laid the cement, smoothed it, used adhesive glue and it adhered to the flooring great.

My question, can I do with in the mobile home with particle board floors? I want to level out the warped particle board and put down a type of cement for strength. Then lay a new vinyl tile Can I use cement or what is recommended?

Thanks

I would just replace the particle board with a good exterior plywood, you might have to replace some joist to get a level floor. We added blocking to help strengthen ours too. Both are not hard repairs or expensive. Adding the cement to the floor may cause more problems than solve.

Hi & welcome. Leveling compound would work, but you should think about this first. If you have a particle board subfloor you need to remember that particle board is nothing but sawdust glued together. If it is warped due to moisture the strength may have been compromised. I would think about replacing it with either Plywood or OSB.

If it is warped and not been wet, look at having the home checked and possibly releveled - with a water level NOT a carpenter's level.

I thought it would be a problem. Thanks for the replies. Yeah the plastic connector that connects to the fluidmaster in the tank just split and spewed out water. I couldn't believe it.. The toilet isn't even used that much..

What size plywood do you recommend 1/3" or 3/4"?

Go with 3/4". You should cut out & remove the old bad sections and lay in the new. There is really no need to replace the good sections if you don't want to.

You can do a search of this section for other posts on the subject.
