Glazing or color washing

Has anybody put a translucent color over their print wallpaper? I was looking at the floral wallpaper in our singlewide today and it isn't bad, just dated. It has navy and burgundy flowers, which I was going todo the bathroom most likely in purple or plum with a blue and green. Do you think rather than trying to cover everything, I could get a color I love over it and still have the disguised floral background? Thanks!

Hey Debi,
I know you posted awhile ago, but if you see this, I think if you used something to really clean the walls (like TSP or the like), you should be able to paint over the current paper with color. Sounds like a great idea, letting the pattern show through - would you please post pictures if you try it? Even if something doesn't work, it teaches everyone and is helpful to know! Myself, I'm still trying to find a photo-sizing program for a Mac that doesn't take all day to figure out so I can upload some photos to share with everyone as well:)
Cheers,
Devon
