I'm not positive but I thought you couldn't run pex right up to the water heater? I know pex makes a 12-18" long copper flex pipe with a valve that you crimp pex onto and that is screwed into the water heater, that is what I have used for the couple of water heaters I have installed. Something about the temp of the water coming out of the heater is to hot for the pex. Like I said I'm not positive but thought I had read that and figured since they make a special hot water hook up for pex that is copper that is the way it should be done.

ponch37300, I spoke with local plumbers at the supply house and they said that it's perfectly fine for electric water heaters and they practiced this method.
