Cleaning Air Ducts

I just purchased a Mobile Home that had been abandoned/forclosed, etc. It was empty for a year. Looking down into the air ducts, I could see rodent feces, hair, etc., so we used a shop vac to clean what we could reach.

The problem is that there are strong, horrible odors, similar to cat urine smells, that come out of the vents. An HVAC guy said to pour some bleach into the vents. Now it smells like bleach mixed with urine. Yuck!

Can Mobile Homes have Air Ducts cleaned by professionals that clean Home air ducts? Or are they different in that something else needs to be done?

Hi,

Yes and no. Can be done, but due to flimsy and thin aluminum ducts, needs to be done very gently by an experienced mobile home duct cleaning service.

As for the bleach, most all mh ducts have openings and gaps which allows liquid (bleach) to escape into belly area and belly insulation.

Now need to check belly for wetness from any bleach that may have entered belly and remove/replace any wet insulation.

It will mold and mildew and the stink will intensify.

Thanks,
Robert
