red stains around heat registers

Last November we moved into a 50-yr-old single-wide that has a 19-yr-old furnace. Around all the registers is a red stain so dark that it looks like spray paint.

The furnace is currently burning kerosene and I think the stain is the kerosene dye, possibly from previous problems with the furnace.

I put filters in all the registers and none of them have shown any staining. Inside the trailer I can't smell anything that might be kerosene fumes or a puffback. But outside I can -- it's pretty bad.

Should I be concerned that the stains mean there's a current problem with the interior air? Or can it wait til I can afford a new furnace?

Thanks!

Hard to say, could be a current problem or the remains of a past problem.

Might be worth a call to fuel/oil company or even an hvac tech to check it out for safety.

Thanks,
