I have [only one instance of] tripled up 2x6 floor joists coming out to my rim joist that I'll need to attach to a new rim joist section: not sure why there are 3; I think that it was from someone else's repair work.

Can I just end nail from the new sister rim joist section? If so, what size nails?

I'll be looking to cut out the existing bad rim joist section. The floor joists where the new sister rim joist piece goes will be cut down to accommodate this new rim joist piece. Thinking that I'd then end nail those floor joists to the sister piece. Then I'd patch in a new outer rim joist piece, nailing it to the sister joist.

That's the way to do it, use pressure treated to help keep the new from rotting.

I located a 6x hanger and I am thinking that I might go that route: might do all joists that way as that would be more secure.

16D nails, about 3 to 4 appears to be the prescribed way to fasten.

I'm not going pressure treated as I shouldn't have a rot problem when things are finished properly.
