Hi Mark, Yanita, Greg, JD. It's been a while since I could afford to fix a problem. But I have a friend who sent me big bucks for painting and other activities.

Kitchen sink has one of those dishwasher vents on top. Currently, the dishwasher drains directly into the garbage disposal.

The garbage disposal bit the dust a couple years back. I don't use it often in any case.

#1 -- If I have a handyman replace the garbage disposal with just pipes, where would the drain hose from the dishwasher connect?

#2 -- Would it make more sense financially to just replace the garbage disposal. I can get one from eBay for about $60 1/3 horsepower.

Thanks.

P.S. I'm doing lots of stuff besides this. If you see anything I shouldn't do, let me know.
painting porches and trim /
replace kitchen faucet (freaking Delta sucks) /
remove 23-year-old carpet and lay vinyl tiles (will prime will Zinsser 1-2-3) /
finish painting inside /

Our dishwasher connects directly to the disposal.

Check around for prices, Home depot site shows a 1/2 hp for $64.

If you use the disposal I would keep one, But you should be able to plumb the washer without a disposal.

Thanks, Greg. I will check Home Depot. I was just there a few hours ago. Should have checked then. Also should have bought blades for my utility knife to cut up the old carpet. Getting old sucks (71 years now).

Good job If you are just now finding getting old sucks. I'm 58 and already know it!

Check their web site, You may also find a closeout at the store. Don't forget about Lowes too.

I have to forget about Lowes. Nearest one is over 80 miles away.

Didn't think to look for closeouts. I will see if I can find that now.

If you do decide to remove the disposal you just need to connect this to the tailpiece on the bottom of the strainer of the sink. Just connect the hose from the dishwasher that connected to the disposal to the little arm on this piece.

Thank you. That's very interesting. If only I were not poor!
