Measuriing for new skylight

I am trying to measure to replace the skylight in my mobile home. I measure the opening inside as bets I can tell its 14 by 30". Do I need to get on the roof to get an accurate measurement?

It may be a better idea to start with the dimensions of actual sky lights available to you to determine their opening requirements. They probably come in standard sizes. You now have a general idea of the existing opening so you will need to find one that is the closest fit (smaller or larger if necessary).
