After looking through your HVAC troubleshoot, I believe the part I'm referencing is the capacitor?

Last night I came home from work, cut the A/C on, and immediately started hearing cracks and pops coming from the blower unit. When I looked in, I saw the little black battery looking piece (I assume it's the capacitor) in the back left corner of the unit sparking and glowing on the inside.

My question is, can I fix this or do I need to call out a repairman?

Hi and Welcome,
Here is a link to the capacitor that you are looking for
http://www.hvacpartstore.com/2807.html
I do believe that this is something that you are able to change out yourself.
1. Turn off all electrical supply circuits to the
furnace at the main service panel.
2. Remove furnace front door and switch
furnace circuit breaker(s) to “OFF”.
3. Disconnect the motor plug from the control
panel receptacle.
4. Remove one screw from left side of blower
and three screws from right side of blower;
slide blower forward and remove
Now unhook the wires from the old capacitor and remove from blower. Now install new capacitor and hook the wires back up. Follow the instruction from earlier but in reverse.
I hope this helps you.
Bill
