Adding a ceiling light.

I want to add a ceiling light in my living room but there is not an electrical box there. I looked for another thread on this topic but could not find one.

Can wiring be ran from the wall switch to a ceiling light box without tearing the whole ceiling down? The other option I can see is to run a new line off the kitchen ceiling light and put a new switch for it.

Does anybody have any ideas
