I read here that someone wanted to know about an alternative heat sourse,if the power should go out.Various ideas were posted....but not a meantion of wood heat. Wouldnt a wood stove be an alternative also?..I know a lot of you may not recomend wood, but i have a wood stove (mobile home approved),and i am never cold...Thats my only source by the way, plus a oil filled electric heater...I have a 12X60.Just a thought. Thanks for listening.Have a great day!!.Glen;-)

Hi Glen,

Wood stoves have been discussed repeatedly in the Alternative Energy forum.

Many folks here use wood as an alternative. The thread I think you might be referring to was more specifically about emergency heat source in the event of a power outage.

Glad to hear that your stove is MH approved. Many folks do not use wood as there primary heat source as it leaves the water pipes susceptible to freezing in the colder regions.

Thanks for your input!

Stay warm!

Hi,

No problem, LOL, I to get confused on some post, hey we are all human.

I remember your post, at least I think it was yours fairly recent about having the pipes located inside. Thats about the safest way to protect your pipes when using alternative heat sources.

Stay warm,

Hey Glen!

I would so love to have a wood burning stove here! They are against smoke here period these days.... it's an emission thing. Something about the particulates the give off!

They've banned wood stoves and fireplaces, along with smoking in public areas, except casino floors... but dang, we still have the same problem with our air! Gee, a half intelligent person may think it's coming from vehicles!

Yeah, we can't heat our homes really great... but we can all drive our big old cars out there!

Real sore subject here!

Maureen,

LOL, someone rattle your cage...I understand what you are saying though. Every morning on my way to work I see these huge SUV's and only one person in them, same rigs everyday!

Being from Vermont I really enjoyed the real deep warm feeling you get from a wood stove, but insurance regulations and requirements hold us at bay from a nice heat source.

The bright side, I locked into gas early at a cheap price, and spring is springing in Eastern N. Carolina. Almost 70 today and getting warmer every day! WOO HOO!

Well yeah Yanita, you just rattled my cage! How dare you mention 70 degree temps when we're looking at storms for a week straight LOL!

ummmm. yep, it gets my back up when we can't burn wood out here, but bring on all the traffic! It's not just a mobile home thing here, it's all homes built or placed after 1983 or something. Get this, if you have any type of home built before then, you have to take out the wood stove before closing! That's what we had to do with our custom built home, Yep, had to tear the sucker out!!!!

The point that sticks in my craw is this... we can't have wood stoves.... but they are still issuing permits by the hundreds to build new homes. Well, with new home comes more auto pollution. We aren't better off, we're worse off! So we can't have wood stoves, but we still have so much smog that you can see the gray cloud over the Reno area in the Winter. So what have we achieved here? More tax revenue? woo hoo!

Off my soap box for now, but I'd kill to have my old wood stove back in a heart beat!

Ok Yanita, how do you lock into a gas rate? Out here, it changes with the wind! Natural gas anyway, Propane is another story.
