thanks for replying Greg, why do you say the paper lays smoother?
I know there are a lot of types of mesh tape (cement board, mold, original, ultra thin, etc.) which one did you use?

For some reason, (perhaps because I really HATE to do sheet rock) When I use mesh I either can not get the mesh deep enough or for some other reason after I sand I end up with some of the mesh exposed. I used the basic mesh tape for drywall. Greg

i tried both also and the self stick mesh works better than the paper. but like greg i had issues with the mesh being exsposed after sanding,mostly if you are butting a new edge to a existing edge that isn't beveled. it's great for inside corners
