Someone on another forum was talking about possibly purchasing a home that had 40k worth of property taxes back east somewhere. Is that possible? Is it like that where any of you live?

I would think the house was a repo because of the taxes owed. I know in Calgary, they have auctions every year on places like that. You can buy the house for the amount of taxes owed or at least a portion of that. The government wants their money, and will sell your house for it!

If it is just a house that has taxes of that amount, I would assume it is a Mansion, and I hope they have alot of money.

Hi

My property tax works out to be $17.40 in tax per $1,000 of property value.

Aside from the roof leak, soft floors, rats, mice and bursted plumbing ........ how do you like it?

No, this is a regular McMansion type house not a mh. This woman posted on a different forum how she was prepared to plog down 850k for a house in NJ I think and the property taxes were about 40k per year. That's ALOT of taxes. Our house is appraised at 110k and assessed at 66k and our taxes will be about 900.00 per year.

I would have to venture a guess that she put a decimal in the wrong place.

Although Jersey is expensive tax rates are public knowledge in most if not all areas.

No, I misread it's a 2 million dollar house, or almost 1,780,000. House price is as ridiculous as the taxes. When I asked her about it, or asked in general, she made a comment about me being a simple folk and not possibly understanding. I guess the rich are different, in a short bus and helmet kind of way. 8)
