Surface Prep Before Cornerbead?

I guess the wallboard would be considered a "non porous" surface, so do I need to sand it lightly before mudding in the cornerbead so it will really stick?
The flower that blooms in adversity is the rarest, and most beautiful of all.
I don't know for positive, but I don't think you should sand wall board. I never have and have never had a problem with it.
