weed control against skirting

The mobile home we bought has asphalt roof shingles under the skirting keeping grass and weeds from growing close to the skirting.
We are gonna move our home to another lot and I had a thought of using rolled roofing for the skirting. It is alot wider and you could put gravel or mulch or anything ya want on it. Ya don't have to beat up the skirting with a weed eater. Just thought I'd pass that along to y'all.
