Mobile Home Exterior Doors

Has anyone ever seen a way to put something on a typical door to disquise the fact that it's a, well..... typical door? :) I'm having this far out idea about attaching a sheet of wood, cut to fit, trimming it out somehow, and painting it. 1: It will cover that little rectangle shaped glass, and 2: It will make it not such a "trailer" door. Any ideas?

You may be able to add Oak trim to simulate a raised 6 panel door.

if it's one of those foam core back doors i would just cover the inside and out side withlike 1/4 inch luan and fab some trim on it like greg said. those doors are flimsy and need all the help they can get ,without replaceing them. you can take the frame off and the glass and then fill that opening withinsulation and cover it to look like a solid door.

Thanks for confirming that it's a possibility. I'm excited at the idea; of course getting hubby excited may be another matter. ;) There's a faux for everything else, so I figure, why not a door?

Getting a wood skin to hold up on the outside will be another struggle. With the time invested, you could probably just replace the door.

i agree Aaron but if it's like mine, odd ball size hard to find, and costly, mine is like 26 inchx79 what is that ? a port hole? if your going to replace the door use a prehung door of normal witdth 32 or so.

Yea Joe, would definitely require reframing the opening. I've used 1/4" luan on a solar heater box experiment, and it doesn't hold up outdoors at all. Delaminates like crazy. Maybe if there were edge trimming applied around the perimeter of the door, but you'd have to be creative because of the metal lip for the door weatherstripping. Still feels like putting lipstick on a pig.

Hi,

My first thoughts was like Aaron's. You are sure to run into trouble with the exterior side of the door. How about paint it, maybe add some trim as Greg suggested. LOL, for that little port hole window, there are magnetic curtain rods available, hang a curtain.

i got it sheet metal thin stuff and attach it to the outside door . it' thin enough you should be able to glue it and fab a edge gaurd plus you can prep it ,prime and paint it , just have to use metal primer. or do the same with formica. or just go and replace that door
