Who has tiled kitchen walls?

I'm thinking of putting some tile on my kitchen walls. I've never done this before so I don't even know where to begin really. Does wall tile require backerboard?

Are you looking to just create a back splash area or the entire walls?

A fast web search will give you all sorts of info. I see This Old House has a nice tutorial on back splashes, why you need them, how to install and etc.

I also suggest that you look up how to do "mosaic tile" it's smaller and more geared towards trailer decorating IMO.
