A year and a half ago I had new carpet installed as part of a make-over of this old 14 x 70.

I looked at a lot of carpets and got three quotes and wasn't happy with any of them. All wanted to use 12' wide carpet that ended up with a lot of waste, thus costing more.

I then found out commercial grade carpet comes in 15' wide rolls. Hmmm. 15' is only a little wider than 14', not much waste and best of all NO SEAMS!!

I selected a medium brown commercial carpet to match the EuroStone tile that was already in place. The type carpet is a short pile and very wear resistent.

I then got a quote much better than using regular house carpet. The company did a very good job installing and not much left over.

And no seams.

The commercial grade carpet with 6 lbs. padding looks good. It's easy to vacuum and feels good when walking on it.

I'd do the same again (three rooms and a hall).

Total cost: $875, padding and all.

Thanks for that info, I also live in a 14x70 and have been thinking of replacing the carpet. This gives me a whole lot more to look into
