Painting popcorn ceilings

Does anyone have any "brilliant" ideas for doing a popcorn ceiling? I started using a roller on ours with Kilz ceiling paint and found that on the second pass of the roller, it had softened the popcorn so much that it lifted from the Sheetrock. I called my supplier and the kilz rep just happened to be there. All he could offer was "that happens with popcorn". I have managed to do a lot with a 3" brush and dabbed most of on, but I do have the kitchen, living room & hallway to do. I thought briefly about getting the power painter out. Greg

Greg,
The only way I have seen this done successfully is by using a sprayer. Otherwise, the texture does soften and will smush with a second pass. Brushes just take way to long Good luck..let us know if you find another solution.

I have painted a popcorn ceiling. The trick is to sweep it with a broom. That knocks off any loose popcorn then paint quickly, careful not to go over the same spot too mant times, it will pop off onto the roller.
