Is the water holding or are you expecting it to rise?

It is coming slow behind me, but will come faster when his field starts getting water from the creek. Other roads on our side of town are closed. Helicopters are going over steady evacuating, and there is a huge emergency responce boat sitting in the Wal-mart parking lot. It has know gone from District to Federal Emergency. Once again the store are getting bare cause the highway is closed, and the flooding. People panic, and start buying everything, but if they shut off our hydro, how can people expect to keep things.

LOL, I understand about the stores getting bare, people buying everything...I am one of those people! Not uncommon if we have a large hurricane coming and sometimes just a tropical storm (they are known to bring more rain sometimes) I can spend a minimum of 300.00 just getting food and other supplies.

I know you said you will not leave unless the water comes up your bank. Well I assuming you realize that water can erode banks long before the water has time to crest over it. This is how sink holes happen.

In our other home we were always prepared to leave or stay. Always paid attention to what roads were still passable in the event we had to leave.

I know shutting off your power will be a major inconvenience, hopefully you have a grill and lots of ice or canned foods. LOL, there was a day or 2 during our big flood that canned beans, vienna sausages and crackers were called dinner. YUCK!!! But nobody was hungry!

Glad you got your truck fixed and ready to go...we always leave the car behind and take our truck, it can go thru some minor water easier than the car. And of course Hubby and I do not want to be in separate vehicles mainly so we do not get separated.

a couple more streets closed and houses flooded. we are expecting the water from the Bulkley within the next 24 hours. The Bulkley is the highest it has ever been, and we are gonna get it. The water behind me is about 2 1/2 feet deep at the fence. There is no creek water yet. That will come soon. I have decided to only wait until the water touches the bottem of the tree fort before we leave. When the Bulkley river water reaches Terrace , everything is gonna flood fast, and since we are the only place(the park) that has no flooding so far on Graham, we are gonna flood fast. The first pic I put in this post, on page one, the trees are gone now. Washed away. The house on that corner of the road (Graham and Kerr st) is gonna be lost. The bank has washed away too much, and the house only has a few days before it looses the support on the river side.

A couple of houses along Skeena st where lost to the river. We just got our evacuation notice in the park here. Hand delivered with police escorts. The Police have been coming though here steady checking the creek at the end.

Well we are all wishing you the best Kelly. Get to someplace safe and let us know you are alright. Hope our home stays dry.

For the first time since my kids were babies, I bought a 4 litre of milk. The Wholesale club was the only store to get a truck through, and I just happened to be there when they unloaded.

My neighbour has moved her stuff out of her trailer. She is right beside me, and is totally freaked out with the water behind us. I,m getting papers and such up, but am not going to panic to the point of moving everything. We would only take what we can fit in the truck, (and of course move our big T.V.) Flood relief only cover the necessary things, not the luxury items.

The water at the creek and behind me are holding for now, but expecting more this afternoon. I can stand outside a hear the river raging. If I had the pick-up home, I could have just loaded the camper on with our things.

At least I don't have to work during this. The floor layers both live in Usk, and have houses under water. I'll guess they are going to be very busy when this is over.

I put on the hubby's chest waders and went to measure the water level out back of me. At the point I stopped I put the stick down first to see if the ground was soft, and the water covered the stick and my hand. The water is flowing through the grass to the pool of water. Please excuse how I look in the waders. they were pretty big. This was not the deepest point, but I wasn't going in anymore. The river has gone down, but they are still expecting the Bulkley, and high tide for the next few days is supposed to affect us too.

River has dropped back too levels it was at on Monday and we are hoping for further drops. big relief for a lot of folks directly affected by this flood but we are not out of this yet. still 70-80% of snow pack still on mountains and will take till end of June to be declared safe. If weather stays cool and we don't get too hot of weather or big rain fall we should be able to ride it out. might be up & down for awhile but looks positive. I have been in a flood situation before and I am optimistic that we can ride it out without any property damage.

Evacuation alerts have been lifted and people are returning to their homes. many people are breathing a sigh of relief. Its raining light to moderate but no heavy downpours and weather is cool. An elderly lady from my church had flooded within an inch of coming into her home before the water receded. The mud slide is almost cleared but there is still water across the highway that needs to clear. the town has groceries and gasoline shipments so life is returning to normal.

Thanks for the update troyster. I was getting a bit worried about you and kashton up there. There are a couple of videos about the flooding in Terrace on youtube.com Let's hope the water recedes enough for everyone to dry out and and be ready for the snow melt.
