Do you smoke...?

Well folks I just thought I'd post this here as it seems the Federal Gov't just can't seem to find enough gig us working folks. Anyways..went down to the local Smokers Outlet Supply and the sign on the window made me furious. Now, mind ye...I "roll my own" rather than pay $50 for a carton of Marlboros. Fer about the same price I can roll up 3 cartons of smokes in my spare time...and pay fer the machine to do it with. Now enter the new Fed Tax.....$25 per lb. on every pound of tobacco. What this means is that instead of paying $12 for a pound of tabaccy to roll my own...it will cost (as of April 1st.).....$37 for a pound of tabaccy. To roll my own cigerettes. Now before anyone jumps up on their podium to extoll the downside of smoking let me explain a few things. Ohhh yes...much more to come. Audie..the longwinded one...

Folks first and foremost without even reading the horse++++ twaddle of the Fed. Gov'ts position on the new tax I can say their decision is based on the premise that rising health-care costs are on account of smokers. Unadulterated horse++++, non-sense and outright lies. The real cost of increased health-care costs are.....overweight Americans. Smokers account for such a small percentage of the cost it's laudible. But..there's no way to tax the average American..by the pound. And don't think I take the weight issue lightly....250lbs. My next issue is the #2 reason of the rising cost of health care. Illigle aliens that get free health care. Actually it's not free..those of us that actually work for a living pay for the health care cost of those that do not. Down in Dallas there's a hospital that averages 47 births a day...every day.....365 days of each year..of newborne illigle aliens that are now American citizens due to the fact they're birthed in Dallas, Texas. Excellent! And now my final rant...the number 3 cost of rising health care costs. Audie...the madder'nell Oldfart...

Hmmmm....5 generations and still can't find a job? Go figger? Mebbe this is the real reason for the rising cost of health care. And mebbe the reason the Fed. Gov't is gonn'a gig me $37 for $12 worth of tabaccy to roll my own smokes....eh? Well they's always a way around the rules..as they've so often found. I'll buy online..from sources not tied to the Fed. Gov't. and tax free. Meanwhile American tobaccy farmers down in North and South Carolina, Ga., Tenn., Va. and a lot of other southern states..and Pa. as well will suffer. Audie..the grumpy Oldfart....

I don't smoke, but have to agree with you that probably overweight and aliens tax the health care system as much if not more than smokers. I just eclipsed the 200 pound mark myself, and not happy about it.

You have to wonder how accurate all these numbers and figures that the gov't constantly comes up with. Do they pole a few entities and multiply the percentages by all the other entities? Probably something like that.

Yo

Smoking - I quit smoking. My doctors said it was bad for my health...I'll die and they won't get my money anymore.

Weight - I'm overweight but I'm thinking of starting a diet ... after dinner.

Illegal aliens - they do it because they can. Millions of them.

Who is driving the bus??

I don't smoke but use to ,but to answer your question , who comes up
with these statistics it is bloated ,over grown government ,which each and everyone of us helped created.

I believe it was ceaser agustus who said (in a democracy once the people find they can vote themselves rich from the largess of the treasury they will) and we do at every turn.

We complain but no one wants to get involved to change it , if you don't like the way your town runs , run for city council and if your views are valid the people will support you.

And as to the statistics well take one for example the unemployment statistics.

There are six different ways they figure them and each takes or leaves something out , the charts are called s-1 thru s-6 and if you want to make it look good you use s-1 if you wanna make it look bad use s-4 to 6.

But if this makes any sense, think about it who runs our government
lawyers and in past history lawyers were actually considered a
somewhat sleazy profession.

So if you let the fox watch the hen house expect the chicken to get eaten.

Just remember next time election time comes up remember that the big talker is just that. And vote for the guy who lives the way he talks. How can a millionaire who inherited his money have any idea
how the little guy lives.I use to date a millionaires daughter years ago and believe me their idea of a small boat is not the same as yours and mine.

Just out of curiosity I believe middle class is 30 to 60 thousand a year what is your idea.

Actually, they're way off the mark...ALL soda pop is horrible for your health. Regular pop makes you fat, rots your teeth, and gives you osteoporosis--my mom, a Pepsi drinker for years, found that out the hard way. She's lost 4" in height and is in constant pain. :(

Diet pop is healthier? ROTFL! Artificial sweeteners have a list of side effects a mile long.

Bottom line: Drink water, milk, and fruit juice, all of which are better for you. :)
Greg wrote:New tax on GYM memberships, OK so we TRY to get healthy and are taxe anyway
Now, that's just ridiculous. Why tax people for doing something good for their health??
Greg wrote:New tax on down loads, music & vidio.
LOL, considering that most people DL stuff illegally, how is that going to be enforced?

As if health care costs aren't high enough....

You guys apparently need some new state senators and congresscritters. :(

And for the record...I've never smoked and never will, because of health problems. Plus, I've lived in California and Arizona, so I've had my fill of chewable air, LOL! :)

Hey oldfart,I just bought a 16oz bag of Gambler tobaccy for $23.50. The tube loading machines they had next to it were pricier than I was told so I didn't even look at the filter tubes. I did look at them online and they are dirt cheap, under $15 for 1000 filter tubes.

Zigzag paper hand rolling is not the way to go,the filterless papers cost 3x as much as the filter tubes I saw online last night!

After hand rolling just 32 cigs the bag of tobaccy was still full, barely dented it. I assume stuffing tubes *might* take/waste more tobaccy but I can see where it will still cost much less than factory made and avoid the idiotic FSCs all in one fell swoop.

Any advice on the *best* and most durable tube loader in the $30-40 range? Do the loaders work with all tubes? Could a $10 hand loader work well and last for thousands of loads?

Well now Dean here's a little math fer ye. :) At present I can buy a pound of Criss-Cross Light tabaccy from Smokin' Joes Supply fer $12. I buy 3 cartons of tubes fer $1.50 each. Total investment so far...$16.50 if I'm correct. I bought a Premier Supermatic Cig. Roller for about $40 and have been using it for the past 4 years. All told it costs me roughtly $8 to roll up a carton of smokes..10 packs of 20 ea. The cost of factory rolled smokes....at present... almost $50 a carton. So...I can roll up 3 cartons (600 ciggereets) in my spare time while watching a movie (2 hours) for about the price of the machine. Good deal..eh! Now mind ye..don't buy the cheap rollin' machines..get the Premier Supermatic. JMHO of course. Also...buy the Southern Cross Premium Filtered Cig. tubes. I buy the red packed ones...$1.49 per 200. If ye like Marlboros and don't want to pay $50 a carton this works!! Don't let the "Light" fool ye...this is premium tobacco and quality tubes. Let me know if I kin help ye more brother. Hmmm, regular pop causes all that huh...

I have smoked 20 plus years...and drink pepsi all day following my morning 2 cups of coffee...

I am 5"11 inches and have been since I was 16, weigh in at 147 lbs, bones are excellent, as of late had a bone density test done. As for teeth, there are many gum diseases not associated with food/drink products.

Seems that obesity is caused from over eating, and lack of proper/enough exercise. I know many folks that have passed of cancer and never smoked and dental hygiene...do you brush your teeth?

I guess my point is if you do anything in moderation you are much better off....

Audie; Since I firmly believe that good comedians are often highly intelligent I'm gonna try taking Your advice. I don't know if the Permier Supermatic is available locally but I will check when My funds allow. I will also look online but that might make for a difficult return process if I get one made on Monday when the entire factory is probably hung over and not minding the quality control!! :D

Yanita; Mom used to say "Too much of a good thing, isn't good".

Back in the 60s I used to steal Dad's smokes and and go hide to puff on em,,didn't start inhaling till I was 13 or so,,many(nearly all there is!)other bad habits were right on the heels of cigs. That said--I wouldn't change much of the last 30 plus years.

Side note;;;At least We Americans had the freedom to screw-up any way We chose,,without that freedom We will be nothing. So all the pedantic law pushers that are never satisfied with their measure of control can just [put that in their pipe and smoke it] and wait to watch it come true. So sorry for the political bent of this paragraph.

LOL Dean,

I have always said that smokers are used to balance the budgets, when ever the local and federal govt need more tax money it generally begins on the backs of smokers...tax the cigs! Same with liquor, wine & beer..

Alot of tobacco farmers are in dire straights here in NC!

LOL,I am a little goofy in My statements and presentation ain't I?! Oh well,I'm true to My form. :D

Ahhh yes,the age old practice of the many villifying the few, then making them pay *far* more than is fair. I bet dollars to doughnuts there are more than a few examles of that action in the last few thousand year.

It never fails,We headstrong partiers grow too rambunctious, then, the goody-two-shoes gain power and take their agenda too far also,,nobody can seem to settle on a happy medium..The pendulum swings.

Here's a not-so-funny thought; If the US tobacco growers are forced out of biz,,,will south America use tobacco as a rotation crop to keep the mountain soil healthy? You know--Marijuana then Coca then Tobacco! Then all the money will be illicit profits going to fortify criminal elements,,just like the idiotic prohibition did for the mob back in the 1930s. All it takes is one little tiff between governments and the illicit growers are always back stronger than before. Not only South America either,,all remote areas of the world.

Can Ya tell I want My cigs unadulterated and forever? ;)

Dean
