hi folks, hope all had a happy Easter. If it turns warm enough this week, I plan to pressure wash our deck so I can stain it. I was wondering if any one could recommend something to clean the deck with other then buying a deck cleaning product. I dont mind buying it but if there is something I have at home that would do just as well, thats what I will do....Macmom

Hi Macmom,

Personally I use nothing other than the pressure washer. The pressure washer removes any traffic patterns that are stained onto the deck.

Others might have some cleaning products they use.

Have a great day!

Hi Macmom,

I agree with Yanita. I cleaned a large area of redwood fence with just water in a pressure washer and it looks great! I hate putting soap in my pressure washer because it is so hard to get it fully flushed out. When I have used cleaners, I just use the soap I bought for the pressure washer, diluted per instructions, in a bug sprayer. I let it soak and then use the pressure washer. To be honest, I don't know that it helped that much. Just water seems to clean everything. There have been problems of mildew spots on Choice-Dek type materials. I have read that bleach doesn't even work on it that well.

I would just rather use the pressure washer as well. I don't like using chemicals cause of the kids and pets. Also, if you have plants around your deck, the chemicals don't do well with most of them.

Hi MacMom,

Just chiming in here with the same! I don't use a pressure washer. My deck is covered by faux outdoor carpeting. Oh yeah, that's on the list to get replaced, it's just not high on the list right now.

I don't use many chemicals at all. Old hippie here, mean, lean and green LOL!

Once I got a pressure washer, I wondered how I managed all those years without one. Word of caution though, if using solid stain for the wood...the pressure washer can peel it off just like it does with paint.
