Arsonist Still On The Loose!

It's going to be a very long fire season for us here in N. NV. It seems that the arsonist that was setting fires up until New Years Eve, is still playing.

We had another fire yesterday that destroyed at least one home, maybe three. It was located very close to to the custom home we built years ago, like just down the block!

Whoever this person is, they've decided that watching out for fires 8 months out of the year isn't good enough, they want us doing this 12 months a year.

One home was destroyed, and a few others had major damage. Guess I'm gonna have to keep the scanner on all the time from now one. We can evacuate in less than 5 minutes, we're prepared for that.

This person is now targeting established neighborhoods. They aren't starting fires around the mountains that surround us.

It's going to be a really long year here!

Hi Maureen

Our fire departments respond quickly but I can't ever remember them being able to save a mobile home.

Here's one that burned Monday.

Citrus Cronicle News
A family escaped unharmed from a Crystal River mobile home Monday afternoon after a fire broke out.

The fire started shortly before 2 p.m. at 9356 N. Days End Path near County Road 488.

Citrus County Fire Rescue Chief Richard Stover said a neighbor called to alert the family to a fire underneath the mobile home. A mother, father, daughter and grandchildren left the home, which was quickly engulfed by flames.

A family cat may have perished inside, Stover said.

Names of family members were unavailable Monday afternoon, but according to the Citrus County Property Appraiser’s Web site, Robert and Joyce Strouse own the home.

The home was completely destroyed.

Nearby mobile homes within yards of the house escaped damage, although a brush fire took over the front yard, burning the grass and shrubbery up to County Road 488.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but it appears accidental, Stover said. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is now looking into the case.

Hi Harry,

Our fire department is only 3 blocks from us. About 5 years ago, the mobile home right next door to the fire station caught fire. It was a total loss!

Pretty scary last night. He struck again! This time coming very close to our brand new library. It only burned 3 acres, but that included 4 to 6 power poles. We had no power, phone lines and of course the cable went out also. None works well without the other these days anyway. They didn't get everything back on until late this afternoon.

This person seems to be getting closer and closer to homes. Within city limits. I'm hoping that he's getting a bit to secure with what he's doing. He's bound to mess up pretty soon!

The homes that burnt the other day were all stick builts. The fire was just too hot and too fast for the firefighters. No one got hurt though!

Off to catch up on emails!

Hi,

FIRE...I am not really afraid of to many things but that is something that scares the Hmmm out of me.

Don't know how you do it Maureen, sleep with one eye open all the time?

I remember last year when Ryan took the phone pic and sent it to you while you where on vacation. Just entirely to close to home.

The sad thing is, they may or may not catch the one doing this, but what is jail time compared to the loses that result in his stupidity!

Take care and keep an eye open...

We can hope that someone catches him in the act and takes a shot at him, may save the taxpayers the expense of a trial. Greg

Hi

Wondering... are there more arsonists today or are they getting more media coverage? Seems like ya hear about them all the time.

Re: Fires - yesterday I called Comcast to report my cable tv outage. Seems a car crash caused a brush fire which burned a critical cable junction. No tv for 12 hours...Missed American Idol...gave the wife and I a chance to get reacquainted.

LOL Harry, yeah, that no power gets you back to things that you sort of ummmm.. forgot about LOL!

The media has cooperated with the police and fire agencies, and have reported very little about any of the fires. They have to announce evactes and such, but they've been playing it down for over a year. This person is getting closer and closer to in town homes. The last two fires could have wiped out hundreds of homes, given the chance!

LOL Yanita! I don't sleep with one eye open. I'm a very light sleeper, and I live 3 blocks from the fire department. Once I hear those sirens go off, I'm up and have the scanner on. I sleep with both ears on call LOL! Oh yeah, and I'm up at my cousin's cabin, in Tahoe again, that's where I was time I got pics from Ryan! I can't stress over it. What will happen will happen! I really need the break LOL!

Greg, My thinking is this person started out lighting these in the hills. He/she has gotten away with a lot! They're feeling very confidant and are getting closer to structures. Sort of boasting in a way. Normally, this is when those type of folks make their mistakes.

The one thing that is consistent, is that the fires start in a circle around the Truckee Meadows. North, northeast, southeast, south, southwest... ya get the idea. Each time the circle closes in tighter to housing projects. I figure I have a week or two before I have to stress again! They'll get sloppy and caught eventually. It's just a matter of time!

Of course, we do have the problem of very little precip here over the last year. That will add the fire season, not only here, but all over the West and Southwest!

Off for the night! Going fishing tomorrow!
