Well, first, today is the first official night of Hot August Nights here in the area! We're all looking forward to it this year!

If anyone is interested, they are offering the same webcasts that they have in past years! The webcasts will be live between Aug 8th thru the 11th. If you like classic cars, you've got to see it!

I'll post the link before the webcasts go live. If you want to just look at the photos. go to either:

It's been sort of a real crazy few weeks in our life here. Both our son Ryan, and our adopted, sort of son Daniel have joined the Army. It's been a real crazy month of mommy melt down here as they made up their minds about the branch of service they thought would work for them. Daniel wanted to get into MP or OS patrol. None of the branches have a need right now. Ryan wants computers in some area. They both decided on the Army. Ryan will be going into his dream job. He excelled in all testing above average. He could go into intelligence if he wished, but he wants to go into computers. Daniel will be going into combat as an armored scout. Ryan ships out Sept 12th. BTC in Fort Benning and AIT in Fort Gordon GA. He won't graduate until next June. Daniel goes to Ft Knox KY on the 27th of September. He graduates next March and will most likely go straight to Iraq or Afghanistan.

Emotions are running really high around here these days! We'll get to enjoy one more Hot August Nights together, the balloon races and then Ryan will be leaving. We'll have Dan around for the air races and Street Vibrations... and then he leaves.

We're proud parents, don't get me wrong! But, Ryan is basically the last to leave after 34 years of parenthood. If I had my way, he would have finished college here. But, the Army is offering him a bachelors degree after 4 years of service instead of the associates degree he'll get if he keeps going to college. Man, how do you argue that? Daniel won't get the credits Ryan will, he'll be in combat zones, but that's what he wants right now.

Anyway, if I'm not around this next month or so, it's because I'm taking what little free time I have with the boys. Or....... I'm having a mommy melt down somewhere LOL! I've had kids leave before, just not this way. And of course, not my baby LOL!

Yep, pretty soon Warren and I will be left to our own devices around here. That's another real scary thought after all these years of kids coming first!

If ya get a chance though, check out the cool cars around the 8th of August on the webcast. Or just check out the photos! These cars come from all over North America for this event!

Maureen,

You will just have to trust a higher power to protect your sons during there service to our country. It is all in the Big Mans Hands now and forever.

I have two sons and one daughter. I always worry about there welfare but in the back of my mind I know that God will protect them until He needs them for other duties.

Be proud in the fact that they are helping to protect your family and ours.

Please thank your sons for their willingness to serve. Any young person entering the military right now (and their families) has my greatest respect. And gratitude.

Understand about the Mommy Meltdown. After a couple of years of bouncing back and forth, Only Son is leaving in two weeks to move to his own apartment in Wisconsin for good. From now on, he'll only be a visitor at our house. As he put it (with much exasperation in his voice), "Mom, I'm 22 now - it's time for the nest to be empty!" But it still feels strange.

But I'm trying just to enjoy his last few days here. And look forward to the day when once again we won't necessarily have to throw on a robe to go to the fridge for a glass of water......but just make sure the outside blinds are shut! You know, back to the "Clothing Optional" days of our youth!

Thoughts will be with you and your boys..........

Thanks guys! Both Lynnie and hvac!

Yes hvac, most of my life has been placed God's hands, with a lot of prayer! I also know that God doesn't take anyone before there time here on earth.

Lynnie, I'm not sure if I'd know how to get out of bed without my robe LOL! I've had nothing but males in the house for 34 years. It's sort of automatic. At the same time... I could look at as a new goal in my life LOL! How cool would it be to sit at the breakfast bar stark naked and eat ice cream? I've never done that in my life LOL! Of course, I'd have the blinds pulled. don't want to scare the neighbors!

Hi Maureen

Enjoy the break. They'll be back one day ... with the little ones.

Army was my choice. I joined right out of high school. When I got out of the army I went to college for 10 years on the GI Bill....while working full time.

I respect all service personnel and appreciate them every day.

Harry

I know you are very proud of your young men. I am proud of them. I will say a prayer for them.
Your life is fixing to change big time. My life was totally dedicated to raising my sons. The are all well educated and are on a great road to success. But it took me a while to get use to the "empty nest". Now I kinda like it. Took us 30 yrs to get the house to ourself again. Took a while but we adjusted. Enjoy it!!! and thanks again for raising fine sons that will serve our country. macmom

Hi Folks. thanks for the thoughts and prayers! They are really appreciated!

Harry, I know that they will be back! LOL, Daniel got upset when I mentioned that their bedroom will change soon! We let him know that he'll always have a home to come to, but that bedroom is prime real estate LOL! I am so not ready for grandkids yet!

Macmom, I'm doing my best to get ready for these changes! I have gotten so used to having young guys around to help with the heavy stuff and stuff that Warren can no longer do. Guess those jobs will now be hired out, unless one of them is home on leave. On the other hand, I keep trying to tell myself the positive aspects of this change. The guest bathroom will actually become a 'guest bath'. I won't have to go in every morning and pick up towels off the floor. I won't have to clean the bathrooms every 3 days! They and their friends think nothing of making a mess out of a bathroom! It will be nice to have only one male, with no 'aim' in the house from now on! Cleaning toilets really isn't my thing. Cooking for 2, now thats gonna take a little time to get used to, but I think I can handle that. I have plenty of take out menus.

We're a pretty old fashioned, close knit family. I know they have to spread their wings and fly. I fully support them! But it's gonna be hard over the next few months.

I am looking forward to this next chapter in our life, it will be interesting to say the least! But man, the hardest job in the world is to be a parent of children that join the armed forces right now! Like Havc said, it's all in a higher powers hands now!

Once again, thank you for the thoughts and prayers!

Maureen
