Ok, after months of battling standing water in the stand-alone shower, it's time to do something else....tried the 'crystals' and 'hair goo' remover brands. Even a tool from walmart that goes down and grabs hair and such. Water is basically still in the pipe, maybe an inch or so down from the top of the drain. So the problem must be in the hook of the pipe? Or could be even down further?
Should i just order and replace the whole thing, or the bottom p-trap?

It could be that the trap is just below drain. If the water drains OK and does not back up with the water running that may well be the case. I have the same problem in one of our tubs, I can either live with it or redo the drain plumbing. Greg

The water backs up while: *taking a shower, then SLOWLY drains. Hasn't been used since 9pm or so last night, and it is still visible to the eye just an inch or so down the pipe.

water is 'glistening' still in the above pic. maybe an inch down the drain.

took the access door off that's opposite wall on the faucet side of shower wall. flashlight shining on what i'd guess goes to the p-trap or just below the drain.

Ok after taking a shower, maybe it's 'suppose' to be like that? It's not standing really while the water is running. After turning it off, it drains/stops just below the pop up drain assembly area, or still about an inch below surface. I think i see what your saying now Greg. Still, the wife's old hair and grudge wasn't helping the cause.

About the only way to tell for sure is to check from under the tub to find the location of the trap. If it is directly under the tub that would explain the water level. There may still be a blockage or not enough drop, that could cause the slow drainage. Greg

Would this be the same for me then? Since the tub is 10 feet or so over.....never is used. Figured the tub has it's own trap and the shower has it's own.

Our's has a P trap just under the drain, so when you look down the drain you do see water about an inch down from the top of the drain. Greg
