I have a seam that's fraying in my carpet. The simple way to fix it would be to put down a carpet bar over the seam. But I really hate carpet bars in the middle of the floor. I have added some carpet seam glue, and that's helped slow down the fraying.

So I'm looking for options. I suppose I could try cutting out the bad seam, hope I can get some more stretch out of the carpet, and re-seam it. No matter what I do, I'm pretty much going to have to live with the fact that I'll always be able to see that seam. If there was some way of stopping the fraying without using a carpet bar, I'd be happy. Maybe I just need to use more seam glue! Or is there some kind of concoction that could be used instead of glue. Yep, I'm grasping at straws here.

I think you may just want to seam it. I would find a carpet installer, slip him a few bucks and have it done by a pro. Greg

Hey Mark,

Yeah what Greg said, but if you can't get it right throw another rug over the bad area!

Carpet wears out from the Bottom Up.
(1) If the carpet is Old... you might could stretch it.
(2) If the carpet is Old... It might Tear when you stretch it.

I am guessing this is glue down carpet. Not carpet over pad.
(1) If you pull it up to stretch it... you may have to put down MORE GLUE over the WHOLE FLOOR.
(2) If you pull it up to stretch it... it may come up in pieces.

You already know this but material cost for carpet is about $2 to $5 per square foot.
Call Dinwiddie Demolition we'll tear that house right down.
